Out STAFF network for UCL LGBT employees (and PhD students) What does the network do? The group networks through lunches and evening events. How do I become a member?

Jeremy Bentham, the founder of UCL, was one of the earliest philosophers to argue for decriminalisation of homosexuality and equal rights for homosexuals and UCL strives to continue this egalitarian tradition today. OUT@UCL

Out@UCL is a staff social network for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) staff at UCL to get to know each other and take part in social events. The group was set up in Ju

ly 2009 because some LGBT staff considered that, in an organisation as big as UCL, it was difficult to get to know people in other departments, especially other LGBT people. There is also an email group for members to communicate virtually and share information about LGBT-related events, publications and news stories. Click here to view the flyer for the group. Is this the same as the LGBT Equality Group? No, the LGBT equality group is a policy group which meets every couple of months to discuss how to implement equalities legislation in the workplace and promote LGBT equality. Click here for more information. If you would like to become a member of the network then send an introductory email to [email protected]. LGBT EQUALITY GROUP

UCL's LGBT Equality Group is open to all lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans staff and those interested in promoting LGBT equality at UCL. The group is an advisory body that will:
• promote positive attitudes towards LGBT people and raise the profile of LGBT equality across the university;
• promote recognition and awareness of discrimination facing LGBT staff and address any inequalities;
• ensure issues of sexual orientation and gender identity are integrated into the operation of equalities and diversity at UCL;
• consider the impact of legislation on UCL policies, procedures and practices as they relate to issues of sexual orientation and gender identity;
• identify any employment issues, policies, or practices that adversely affect LGBT staff;
• liaise with other universities with a view to sharing resources and/or ideas regarding issues of sexual orientation and gender identity;
• report on progress to the Committee for Equal Opportunities and other relevant UCL committees and groups, as necessary;
• act in an advisory body to UCL on issues of sexual orientation and gender identity. The group meets at least once a term. Meetings will be held flexibly and more frequently as needed, in line with the group's activities.

UCL LGBTQ+ Network Lunch - Tuesday, 21st April from 12-2pm in the Conference Room, Bloomsbury Theatre Building

Professor Anthony Smith, LBGTQ+ champion on the Provost’s Senior Management Team, would like to invite all Le***an, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender UCL staff to an informal lunch on Tuesday, 21st April from 12-2pm in the Conference Room, Bloomsbury Theatre Building, 15 Gordon Square WC1H 0AY. This is an opportunity for LGBTQ+ staff to get together for a social lunch and share some ideas about how UCL can best support staff. Currently we have the virtual Out@UCL network, A Q***r Space Reading Group and a developing Research Network. If you identify as LGBTQ+ and are not already a member of the informal Out@UCL network, are there things that could make this more useful to you? If you are a member, what else could the network and UCL do to support you better? Lunch will be provided so please RSVP to Fiona Addison [email protected].
