The Chemical Engineering Society, or ChemEngSoc as itโs more affectionately known, was established by post-graduates in 1935, but became dormant shortly after, following the outbreak of WW2. With the introduction of an undergraduate course in 1937, ChemEngSoc truly took off after the war and has continued to flourish ever since. Today with over 30 different nationalities represented, ChemEngSoc is
renowned as one of the most diverse, active, student-run departmental societies at Imperial College. Every ChemEng student (undergraduate, MSc and PhD) automatically gains membership of the society free of charge, giving us approximately 750 members. With a 16-strong committee, further sub-committees and close relations with academic staff, our overall objective is to enhance the student experience. ChemEngSoc is well-known for organising departmental social events, including the ever-popular Talent Show (memorable performances each year by staff and students) and the legendary Cocktail Party. We also organise three dinners over the course of the year at upmarket London locations including: a Welcome Dinner targeted towards incoming students, a festive Christmas Dinner, and our signature event - the Annual Dinner. Unique to Imperial, our Industrial Relations team organise over 15 lunchtime presentations, CV clinics and other direct networking opportunities with industry annually. Wherever it may be in the UK (last year was an 800-mile round coach trip to Glasgow) we consistently attend the inter-university ChemEng Frank Morton Sportโs Day and, with a rich history, we are proud to have lifted the trophy seven times.
