☆☆☆ My top tips for getting merit/distinction in PET are:
1. Memorise the topic lists (p.40-51) on the official wordlist: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.cambridgeenglish.org/images/506887-b1-preliminary-2020-vocabulary-list.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjlxryZsanlAhV7QhUIHR4OAvcQFjABegQIChAB&usg=AOvVaw1hVp3E8jklhcGm1II3fpOi
2. Practice all 4 skills regularly with corrections in speaking and writing from an experienced PET teacher.
3. In Writing Part 3 be sure to use advanced vocabulary (eg. particularly like, horrendous, gorgeous), grammar (eg. Present perfect, first conditional) and linkers (eg. as well as, however, whereas).
