Imperial Racing Green

Imperial Racing Green Imperial Formula Racing is a student-led initiative at Imperial College London designing, building and racing low-carbon vehicles.

Imperial Formula Racing is a flagship interdisciplinary teaching project at Imperial College London. It is part of the Imperial Racing Green community which involves undergraduate students in designing, making, testing and racing, zero emission vehicles. In doing this, undergraduate engineers get involved in developing vehicles based around hydrogen fuel cell, battery electric, and various hybrid

technologies. It has three aims:

1) Deliver vehicles with competition and event winning potential

2) Develop cutting edge technology of an international standard with far reaching impact

3) Inspire and train the next generation of engineers to be leaders and innovators in the technologies that are relevant for our future

The team is made up of both project students and volunteers from different departments, making this a truly interdisciplinary effort involving students from across the College.

New battery pack parts and suspension anti-roll bar arms for IFR EV21!
Thanks to our manufacturing partner Fractory , accurately bending sheet metal at non-90° angles will never give us headaches again! They also helped us by offering bore reaming services, like in the anti-roll bar arms, a great time saver when we don’t have much Pit Garage access. Check them out at https://fractory.com/.

Hi Everyone,

We are Imperial Racing Green, an initiative run within Imperial College London to design and create cutting edge, low carbon vehicles. Those of you who have been following this page have probably seen several changes over the years and we would like to provide you with a quick introduction to the three teams within IRG.

1. Imperial Formula Racing

IFR is a flagship racing team with an aim to produce a high-performance Electric Racing car to compete at International Formula Student Competitions. Follow our journey on Instagram and Facebook as we build EV21:

2. Imperial Vulcan

We are proud to be the very first team to represent Imperial at the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Design Competition - and an all-girl one at that!

This year, we will be designing, making and testing a repeatable vehicle. Our job is to build a vehicle that travels towards targets and accurately lands on these set targets on the track.

3. IRG Shell Eco Marathon

ShellEcoMarathon is a competition which requires students to design and build an energy efficient prototype. The vehicle has to complete a set number of laps within a maximum time limit, with the winner using the least amount of energy.

Hi Everyone,

As some of you may know, Imperial Formula Racing (IFR) operates under the umbrella of Imperial Racing Green. However, with more members than ever before, in order to better differentiate ourselves from IRG, we are moving to a new Instagram and page.

For a chance to sit in the passenger seat, as we progress through the timeline to deliver a vehicle built with state-of-the-art technology, follow their pages:

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/imperialcollegeformularacing
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imperialformularacing

From next week, this page will once more be the home for Imperial Racing Green and stay tuned for the introduction of our 3 teams on this page.

If you have any further questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us via the platforms above.

Make sure to come along to today's talk from James Slaughter on vehicle dynamics and aero!

18:00 on the IFR Teams page, as always.

James is a current PhD in Aeronautical Engineering focusing on high-resolution CFD methodology applied to complex geometries including automotive and motorsports.
He has a number of years Formula Student experience during his undergraduate studies and also afterwards acting as a design judge in Aerodynamics in FSAE-Australasia.
He has wider experience in motorsports and data analysis and has consulted for a number of race teams and motorsports companies providing data analysis and race engineering services to the wider community.

As promised, for today's (Tuesday's) talk we will welcome Owen Heaney, formerly Chief Engineer of IFR in the year 2018-2019 (then IRG FS), now Graduate Engineer at Williams Racing.

The theme this time is "honing your skills for success in Formula Student". The talk takes place at 18:00.

You can find the meeting slot in the general channel of the MS Teams. We hope to see you there!

20/10/2020

Today (20/10) at 18:00, we will welcome two guest speakers from Scuderia Ferrari, Rinaldo and Cameron! They are both former members of IFR and have recently graduated from Imperial. They will be talking about what it's like to work for an F1 team, as well as their experiences with Formula Student in their undergraduate days.
This will take place on the IFR MS Teams
