LSESU Argentina Society

The LSESU Argentina Society hosted a wonderful event in collaboration with the Colombian Society, “Overcoming Growth Constraints: Diagnosis for Argentina and Colombia".

In the event, students from the presented their for each country, where they identified some of their main economic growth constraints and discussed possible reforms and their feasibility.

In the case of Argentina, binding constraints were identified in the country's unsustainable fiscal balance, distortionary tax rates, and restrictive labour regulations. Strategic recommendations included reducing energy subsidies, a targeted export tax reduction programme, a corporate tax replacement and collection programme to be tested in a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), and targeted labour reforms.

After their presentation, we had the opportunity to hear from Federico Sturzenegger, former president of the Central Bank of Argentina, who commented on the team's findings and offered his insights on the political constraints of reforms, leading to a very interesting discussion.

40 AÑOS DE LA GUERRA DE MALVINAS

En el marco del 40° aniversario de la Guerra de Malvinas, la Sociedad Argentina de LSESU se propuso visibilizar las principales cuestiones alrededor de este conflicto.

Sentimos orgullo de haber posibilitado esta instancia conmemorativa, promoviendo la reflexión y discusión sobre Malvinas durante esta experiencia académica dentro de una de las universidades más notorias del Reino Unido.

Queremos agradecer a The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) por permitirnos generar este espacio y diálogo con una comunidad internacional.

El evento fue transmitido en idioma castellano con interpretación simultánea al inglés, y reunió a una amplia y diversa audiencia.

El webinario contó con la participación la profesora Theresa Squatrito, el especialista en derecho internacional Mg. Facundo D. Rodríguez, el historiador Marcelo Larraquy y el veterano de Malvinas, contraalmirante (R) Carlos Castro Madero.

Conmemoramos a los Veteranos y Caídos en la Guerra de Malvinas, recordando que la Argentina mantiene su reclamo permanente e irrenunciable sobre la soberanía de las islas.

In the context of the 40th anniversary of the Malvinas War, the LSESU Argentine Society proposed to bring forward the main issues surrounding this conflict.

We are proud to have made this commemorative event possible, promoting reflection and discussion on Malvinas during this academic experience, within one of the most renowned universities in the United Kingdom.

We would like to thank The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) for allowing us to generate this space and dialogue with an international community.

The event took place on April 11th with the participation of Professor Theresa Squatrito, the international law specialist Facundo D. Rodríguez, the historian Marcelo Larraquy and the Malvinas veteran, Rear Admiral (R) Carlos Castro Madero.

The webinar was broadcast in English and Spanish, but unfortunately, the Zoom platform only allows downloading the video in the original language of each speaker.

We commemorate the Veterans and Fallen in the Malvinas War, recalling that Argentina maintains its permanent and non-renounceable claim to the sovereignty of the islands.

🇦🇷Argentina commemorates the Day of the Veterans and the Fallen of the Malvinas War.

➡️ The Question of the Malvinas Islands is understood as the sovereignty dispute between the Argentine Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland over the Malvinas, South Georgias and the South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas.

🗓️On 3 January 1833, the United Kingdom to the detriment of Argentina's territorial integrity, unlawfully occupied the islands and removed Argentine authorities, preventing their return as well as the settlement of Argentine nationals from the mainland territory.

✍🏽Since then, Argentina has systematically objected to British occupation, ratifying its sovereignty and affirming that recovering this territory, in accordance with international law, is a permanent and unrenounceable goal.

The Anglo-Argentine Society is organising the Gran Asado 2017, the largest event of the Argentine community in the UK.

It will take place on Sunday 25th of June from 10am to 8pm at the Wasps FC (nearest station Ealing Common, Piccadilly Line).

During the event there will be an asado for 800 people, a lot of entertainment and several stands selling Argentine products. From 5pm, a DJ will be playing Argentine and Latin American music.
