A new honorary appointment is strengthening long-standing archaeological collaboration between London and Beijing.

Professor Stephen Shennan has been appointed Honorary Research Professor at Peking University’s Center for the Study of Chinese Archaeology for 2026–2028.

The appointment builds on the enduring partnership between the UCL Institute of Archaeology and Peking University through the International Centre for Chinese Heritage and Archaeology. Following his prestigious Su Bai lectures in 2025, Professor Shennan was invited to continue contributing to research, conferences, and student engagement at PKU.

Professor Shennan said:
“The colleagues and students at PKU and the work they do are outstanding, so it’s an honour to be held in high regard and to continue interacting with them.”

The appointment reflects the importance of international collaboration in advancing archaeological research, teaching, and cultural understanding.
