Maria's March highlights
Guyanese Chevening scholar and student, Maria, shares her March highlights:
⛪Visiting the cathedral to see the Magna Carta was such a powerful experience. Standing in front of something so historic made me reflect on the foundations of law, rights, and justice. It was one of those moments that really connected my studies with real history.
🪨Stonehenge visit
Finally seeing Stonehenge in real life felt surreal - one of those places you grow up hearing about. Standing there, you really feel the weight of history and time. It reminded me how special it is to be studying in the UK and exploring beyond the classroom.
🤍 Chevening friendships
One of the best parts of this journey has been the people. The friendships I’ve built through Chevening have made this experience so much richer and more meaningful. Different cultures, shared moments, and memories that will last far beyond this year.
🎓Birkbeck PG Open Day
As a student ambassador, being part of the Birkbeck PG Open Day was both exciting and meaningful. I had the chance to share my experience and connect with prospective students considering their next step. Moments like this make me appreciate how much I’ve grown since arriving as a Chevening scholar.
👑 Commonwealth Day in London
Attending Commonwealth Day in London was truly unforgettable. I had the incredible opportunity to see and meet members of the Royal Family, which felt both surreal and exciting. It was such a special moment that made me pause and appreciate how far this journey has taken me - definitely one for the memories before heading back home.
🌙 First Tunisian-style iftar
My first Tunisian-style iftar was such a wholesome experience. From the food to the atmosphere, everything felt warm, generous, and full of culture. It was a beautiful reminder of how sharing meals brings people together, even far from home.
