Hi Everyone!

Fair-Space and The Hamlyn Centre at Imperial College are presenting a new series of online events and talks called "From PPE to Spacesuit".

They are trying to bring about transdisciplinary discussions about wearables from space to Earth relating to health(care) with some stunning international headlines (hopefully with an astronaut for each and every webinar in the series, first two secured).

This sets to be an amazing series and should give a great run down of spacesuit systems and design.

Please find the links below to the first two talks πŸš€

Clothing as a system – evolution and ecology, 9th Sept 14:00 London Time https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/118470160439

Protective clothing – layer up, 17th Sept 12:00 London Time https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/118640957297

This is not just-another-webinar! Join us for some out of the Earth (eco-)system thinking and conversations, from PPE to Spacesuit.

Here is an update from the CubeSat project. The group recently went to Hyde Park to test out their antenna and successfully made contact with the NOAA-19 weather satellite and decoded images!

Hey,

This is a recruiting message calling any EEE or EIE students at Imperial!

Do you want to work on HELICON THRUSTERS πŸš€on their application of space applications?

We have an exciting challenge on this organised by Dr. Aaron Knoll from the Aero department in collaboration with us.

For those interested, either get in contact with this page, email us at: [email protected] or get in touch with Theo Macklin, head of the Engine design project.

Ho ho ho! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Wishing everyone a happy holidays. While we all go about the yearly traditions this time of year (and reading Elon Musk's memeposts) we would like to update you all on a launch of one of our projects: REDP!!! (Rocket Engine Design Project). The idea is to work towards building an engine similar to the VASIMR engine (a helicon-coupled-plasma-source).
πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€
(If like me (the social media PR physicist) didnt have a clue what a VASIMR engine is: here is a link to a NASA explanation: https://www.nasa.gov/audience/foreducators/k-4/features/F_Engine_That_Does_More.html)

If this interests you or have ideas relating to engine design please get in touch either by email or messenger to the project leader: Theo Macklin ([email protected])!!

In other space news, the ESA solar orbiter mission is still on schedule at the moment and is due to launch in early February from the Cape in Florida (Imperial designed, built and is in charge of the science mission for its magnetometer!!) πŸ›°οΈπŸ›°οΈπŸ›°οΈπŸ›°οΈπŸ›°οΈ

Our sponsor Orbex has quietly been busy, we would like to congratulate them on winning several awawrds these past few months:
- Advanced Engineering Award from the GoTech19 Awards
- IET Innovations Award for best start up
- Gold award from The Stevie Awards for Company of the Year - Aerospace & Defense - Small
- 2019 Sunday Times Fast Track Disruptors to Watch

They are currently working on their prime launch vehicle for 2020 and recently allowed images from inside their facilities: https://www.forbes.com/sites/jonathanocallaghan/2019/11/19/orbex-reveals-first-look-inside-its-rocket-facility-for-uk-launches-starting-in-the-2020s

Blue origin has recently (re)launched and landed one of their rockets for the 6th time! Cool stuff by Bezos.

SpaceX is launching rockets and landing them back like its absolutely no problem (albeit losing a nosecone this most recent time). Onya Musky.

The NASA Orion/SLS is under heavy pressure now to succeed and an upcoming test should be happening shortly over the next month so keep your eyes peeled for that!

That's all from us for now - feel free to contact the fb page if you have any questions regarding the projects or the society in general.

See you in the new year! (unless something sick happens in the space world and we feel obliged to post about it ;P)πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€
