On 11 March Professor Béatrice Baudet, Professor of Soil Mechanics, delivered her inaugural lecture on 'the multiple scales of soils: a tale of solids and spaces', examining the fascination and difficulty of soils.

The lecture was well attended by members of the public, students, and staff, including Professor Jose Torero Cullen, Head of Department for Civil, Environmental & Geomatic Engineering, who said:

'It was a great pleasure to spend the evening celebrating the achievements of Professor Baudet, a valued member of the department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering at UCL. Professor Baudet's talk brought us from underground spaces to the moon, clearly showing her passion for the subject, the importance of her work, but also the extent of her professional accomplishments.'
