UCL SciCon

UCL SciCon A society in UCL trying to bring together world class research and the next generation of scientists. Welcome to SciCon!

At SciCon, our aim is to bring together world class research and the next generation of scientists.

We want to create an environment for a two-way conversation about scientific ideas across all fields.

An informal setting promotes a more open-minded exchange of ideas between researchers and students by replacing the austerity of the lecture hall with lab workshops, talks, networking events and

much more! Through collaboration with societies across UCL, students will have the opportunity to gain a new perspective on interdisciplinary research and develop contacts with experts in various fields.

“I would rather have questions that can't be answered than answers that can't be questioned.”
― Richard P. Feynman

This Wednesday our book recommendation is “Six Easy Pieces” by Richard P Feynman, well known for his extraordinary teaching expertise.

“Six Easy Pieces” contains some of the most accessible and foundational chapters from the famous “Lectures on Physics” (also well worth a full read), ranging from the conservation of energy to the relationship of physics to other areas of science. Feynman reduces complex problems into easy, enjoyable stories and provides the reader an accessible way to understand the basics of physics.

If you are up for a lighter position, we encourage you to try Feynman’s autobiography: “Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!”.

As always, comment with any positions that you think are worth reading.
