The Academy Learning Centre Enriching face to face tuition for SATs, GCSEs & A-levels. We specialise in Maths, English, Science, Welcome to The Academy! What is The Academy? What do we teach?

Read on to find out who we are and what we do. The Academy Learning Centres offers extra tuition for children aged 6-16. Our primary focus is on maths and English, but we also offer additional subjects including science and modern languages. Our curriculum is designed to cover all the key skills students need to succeed in national exams including SATS and GCSE's as well as entrance exams for gram

mar schools and/or public schools. When and where do we teach? We teach in centres around London on weekends and evenings. Typically a session will last 3-4 hours, covering maths and English, with a short break in between. The additional tuition and support provided by The Academy helps children to achieve their full potential and make faster progress. Our small group approach means we are able to provide individual support for each student. Lessons are fun and clearly targeted, led by teachers who are subject specialists. We also carefully track each students’ progress and provide regular feedback for parents. Fact of the day!

You can’t taste food without saliva

In order for food to have taste, chemicals from the food must first dissolve in saliva. It’s only once they’ve been dissolved in a liquid that the chemicals can be detected by receptors on taste buds. During this process, some salivary constituents chemically interact with taste substances. For example, salivary buffers (e.g., bicarbonate ions) decrease the concentration of free hydrogen ions (sour taste), and there are some salivary proteins that may bind with bitter taste substances.
