Air quality is a perennial issue in London - and it could turn into one of the major issues of this snap General Election.

Kings made this nifty interactive resource for seeing how air pollution stacks up across our capital, and it makes for grim viewing. Take a look at your local area below.

While you're at it, check out the paper LFSP published back in 2015 on the issue, with solutions to the crisis of poor air quality from Imperial students, including our current Policy Director!

Don't forget to REGISTER TO VOTE in the election on June 8th. You can also apply for a postal vote or a proxy to vote for you if you're busy with exams and can't go home or to the polling station on the day.

Also - make sure to keep up to date with the latest goings-on, and read the party manifestos if you want some constructive procrastination when they're released.

LFSP is of course non-partisan and will not tell you how to vote - that's entirely up to you. We'll be sharing relevant tit-bits for the next month as and when they emerge to help you decide.

Get on the electoral register so you can vote in elections and referendums.

Finally we find something that we can agree on with President Trump!

LFSP worked on this topic back in 2015 before 'The Don' made it cool, so take a look at the paper of research we compiled for policy makers. Suggestions included media training for early career women in STEM and supporting them to engage with the typically male-dominated environment of the media. Take a read - we'll try get his attention on Twitter (you never know!)

"Science and politics are not always compatible. And science need not always triumph over policy: After all, research shows that steroids improve athletic performance, but we have a compelling political interest to ban them. The same can be said of eugenics. Research must always be ethical, and ethics is a conversation that includes scientists and policymakers.

Still, while the two domains are separate, the divide is, and should be, bridgeable. As Edwards and his colleagues write, "The personal and professional peril is great, the critics are numerous and vocal, but staying silent is to be complicit in perpetrating injustice. And no matter what may come of the rest of our lives or careers, we are certain of one thing: Flint was a community worth going out on a limb for, and by upholding a just cause, we enhanced the social contract between academics and the public."

In the wake of the Flint water crisis and with a new notably anti-science president, U.S. scientists are reevaluating how to navigate the tension between speaking out and a fear of losing research funding.

Climate Change Policy is hard to enact when the discussion surrounding it usually does not include the term "climate change". How do you feel popular rhetoric on climate change has impacted policy steps to improve the environment?

Even as conversations about the subject remain contentious, the environment is becoming a concern no one there can ignore.
