Vote Nathan for President

Vote Nathan for President Vote for really turning our student union into a fighting union, that stands up for students rights and fights all forms of oppression and exploitation!

Action, not words for better education! Where I stand:

Defend education - No to privatisation, support the staff strikes and student protests against Tory attacks on education. Money for student services, not vice chancellors pay - More funding for the library, study spaces and lab equipment. Remove the restrictions and the red tape that is strangling student societies. I am committed to fighting

for more student influence over academic and social issues. As a socialist, I stand for a Union that fights against oppression. No to racism – I oppose the BNP, EDL and UKIP’s racist lies. No to sexism – I actively fight for gender equality and women’s liberation. No to homophobia – I will stand up for all LGBT students for the right to equal treatment and opportunities.

I say defend education and say no to privatisation. Not only has the privatisation of uni services affected the price and quality of services that we depend on, but also the government has now revealed that they plan to privatise our student loans. This means the cap on interest will be removed, and that we will essentially be paying more (to private companies, not the government) than we thought we would. There is potential for a national campaign against this, as it affects all students, and I will make London Met play a key role in this campaign. I support staff strikes and student protests against the government’s attack on education – Staff have endured a 13% real wage cut in the last 4 years, while the Vice Chancellors salary has risen to more than £250,000 a year. The union needs to do more to support staff strikes and oppose the huge cuts to funding and wages in education, because if our staff are badly paid, the education we receive is affected. I will fight against financial pressures that are put on students – Higher fees, high rents, hidden course costs and the privatisation of loans show students are being squeezed financially. I will campaign for reduced hidden course costs such as printing. I will also make our student union part of the national campaign against the privatisation of student loans. As a political activist on campus, I understand the lack of democracy of this university and am committed to fighting for more student influence over academic and social issues. Including fighting to removing the restrictions and red tape that currently strangle student societies, in the interest of a fairer and more democratic system; I will push for the Students Union to have final say for events and speakers for societies, as opposed to university management. I will make myself available to students all week, and think it's important elected officers spend more time talking to students. As a socialist, I stand for a union that fights all forms of oppression. No to racism, sexism and homophobia! VOTE NATHAN FOR A FIGHTING UNION - MAKE YOUR UNION RELEVANT TO YOU!
