Chiara in Korea 🇰🇷 [Part 3/3]

This final post will present a number of places of high cultural value that are worth visiting in South Korea. Many of these are places that you pretty much cannot go to Korea without visiting at least once, including traditional spots such as Gyeongbokgung Palace and places that are perfect for taking photos like the Starfield Library 🌟📖. From the photos I have included in this post, I hope you can get a glimpse into the deep history that Korea has to offer and the beautiful architecture that you may come across in these hotspots 🌉.

and a special thank you message 🤍:

Chiara in Korea 🇰🇷 [Part 2/3]

Hello everyone and welcome to my second post sharing my experience at HUFS, South Korea.

This post will focus on social experiences during my time as an exchange student. Here, I introduce a bunch of activities that my friends and I enjoyed around different areas in Seoul. There are a range of exciting and fun activities to get involved in 💃🏽 as well as some which are dedicated to just spending some time relaxing and burning off steam 🧘🏽‍♀️. A lot of these are well-known both to locals and international visitors as they are core parts of Korean social culture and appear in a lot of Korean Media 🎭📽️.
I hope this post can give you some ideas for what to do outside of class time, in the city of Seoul.

Chiara in Korea 🇰🇷 [Part 1/3]

Hi, my name is Chiara and I spent 4 weeks studying at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) during summer 2024 📚.
This first post will broadly introduce my experience as a student at HUFS. One thing that really amazed me on the first day of this exchange trip was how beautiful the campus was, full of greenery and tall prestigious buildings 🌳🏛️.
The staff were especially very friendly during the opening ceremony, where we were introduced to our professors and taken on a guided tour of the campus. I took two courses: ‘Practical Korean 2’, where I studied the Korean Language, and ‘The Korean Wave and Contemporary Korean Culture’, which explored the popularity of Korean Media 🎥.

I hope that this post will serve as a useful introduction to life as an exchange student at HUFS, and perhaps help with future decisions about studying abroad for other students 🛫 🌏.

Hi everyone! I’m Hinano, a third year International Relations student from Tokyo, Japan. I am beyond excited to be working as a Peer Advisor this year and to meet each one of you. Last semester, I had an amazing opportunity to study at Sciences Po, Paris for a semester, which became one of my favourite memories of my life! 🇫🇷
I really enjoyed studying with such academically driven students and passionate and experienced professors, exploring topics like International Law and Environmental Governance. During free time, I loved going to museums on my own, exploring different neighbourhoods of Paris, and going to picnic with friends at one of Paris’ beautiful gardens like Jardin du Luxembourg. I cannot wait to meet you all and hope that I can help you have the best study abroad experience! 🫶

Hi all, I am a dentistry student at KCL and went to Fudan University, Shanghai for the summer. I had a really great time- see below for some of the highlights!!
--
🕔Academics and Study
Fudan is a very well known and prestigious university in China for not only academics but also student life. Compared to London, the several campuses are much bigger each providing facilities for a variety of sports like volleyball, tennis, table tennis, badminton, archery, boxing etc. There really are so many facilities and things to do on campus. There are so many canteens where the food is tasty and extremely cheap as well as supermarkets all within the campus. It is easy to get around the campuses with bike hire services that can be as cheap as 10p for a 30min ride. It really is very enjoyable and convenient to study at Fudan!

Academically, Fudan is very well known for economics, law and medicine. Students are extremely hard working- we had some classes that finished at 9pm! The professors are all very knowledgeable and encourage group discussion and facilitate building friendships. With all the things to do and convenience it was easy to balance the work with the life.

🍉Culture and Everyday Life
Shanghai is known as the business city of China. With many people working, studying and visiting for holiday, Shanghai is built for convenience. Compared to London, life is significantly cheaper from food and drink to taxis and public transport. Normally, we would either take a taxi or the metro to get around. Bars and restaurants are of high quality while being affordable. Wechat also makes every life extremely convenient and is an essential in visitng China. It combines Whatsapp functionality with taxi hailing, metro payments, hospital bookings, payments and a whole lot more! Speaking to several international students, studying full time in Fudan, they all agree that Fudan and Shanghai are very well suited for student life.

We experienced different aspects of Shanghai's culture including it's historical neighbouring towns, food and dress. We visited several historical landmarks as well as observed the impressive skyline, a reflection of its fast development!

Hi, I’m Sanam, doing a GSE at Nanyang Technological University Singapore. I saw this poster at the graduation event at the end of the summer school. It really hit home because the GSE was one brave step and it unlocked friends for a lifetime and excellent subject knowledge paired with international perspective going forwards. So take the step.

My time as a Peer Advisor has been incredibly enriching. This experience allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the diverse academic systems found worldwide and to develop a more nuanced comprehension of the extensive efforts involved in coordinating and facilitating the invaluable global exchanges managed by the Global Mobility Office on a daily basis.
I feel incredibly lucky to have been part of these exchanges, and using my experiences to support and guide students preparing for their own international adventures was truly fulfilling. I enjoyed being a Peer Advisor, especially for the broad range of activities and tasks I have been assigned throughout the year, which made it stimulating and fun. From a professional perspective, this role has equipped me with a broad range of competencies, from enhancing my administrative skills to developing my creativity by creating content on Canva and Instagram.

I want to express my gratitude to the entire Global Mobility team, for their constant support and availability throughout this year and for allowing me to contribute to their incredible work. For all the students who will be going abroad soon, I wish them the best of luck and encourage them to make the most out of this opportunity, as it will really be a transformative experience. Thank you 💛🎉

🇰🇷 My Summer at Seoul National University 📚☀
📽🏞
P1: Stunning Campus Views 🏞📊
P2: Challenging Statistics Course 📈🍲
P3: Delicious Campus Cafeterias 🍜🎨
P4: Creative Metal Art Class 🖌👫
P5: Making Global Friends 🌍🗺
P6: Exploring Seoul's Hotspots 🛍🎶

I'm thrilled to share my incredible summer at Seoul National University! 🌟 I tackled two courses: "Introduction to Statistics" and "Traditional Metal Art." One was academically rigorous, the other pure fun, but both taught me valuable lessons. 📚
The campus is vast and breathtaking, nestled on Gwanak Mountain, with a strong sense of community. 🌳
The statistics course was challenging but rewarding, covering statistical theory, Python, and data analysis with SAS. 💻
Foodies, rejoice! The campus cafeterias offer delectable Korean dishes, including Kimchi, at budget-friendly prices. 🍲
Metal Art allowed me to explore my creative side, making unique silver and copper creations. I even gifted my artwork to my mom! 🎁
Summer school brought me friends from around the world, making the experience even more special. 🌏
Seoul's hotspots like Hongdae, Itaewon, and Gwangjang Market provided unforgettable experiences. 🌆
Joining this exchange program was a fantastic way to explore the world and embrace new cultures. 🌍
Stay tuned for more exciting updates! 📷✈
