The University of Westminster is a diverse and dynamic international education institution situated in Harrow and at three campuses in the heart of London, one of the world’s great cities. Westminster offers a vibrant learning environment where innovative, creative and dedicated students can gain the skills and experience they need to succeed in professional life. Since its launch in 1838 as Brita

in’s first polytechnic institution, it has led the way in many areas of education and research, and continues to do so today. The University attracts more than 20,000 students from 150 different nations, making it one of the most popular UK universities for international students. It also runs the country’s largest scholarship scheme. A wide range of Westminster’s courses have received excellent QAA ratings, and the University’s research leads the way in many areas including art and design, electronic engineering, law, and media and communication. It has also been recognised by the HEFCE as a Centre for Excellence in professional learning from the workplace. The University continues to invest in improving the learning environment for students, while also embarking on an ambitious refurbishment plan of its Regent Street headquarters. This building houses the UK’s earliest public cinema, the venue for the Lumiere brothers first public moving picture show in the country in 1896. Looking forward, the University aims to embed internationalisation, employability and green-thinking into all areas of its work, and to build a cutting-edge, innovative and creative research culture which is known for making a difference.

We have launched Westminster Waves, a brand-new Ofcom-licensed community radio station broadcasting across London on DAB Digital Radio, online and via smart speakers, with a mission to become the sound of student life in London! 📻💛

As the only university in London to hold an Ofcom community radio licence, we have created Westminster Waves to connect with our local community and half a million students across London, including more than 160,000 international students who make the capital one of the world’s most vibrant and diverse student cities. Broadcasting from our University’s Harrow Campus with a rich 24/7 schedule of programmes, whether listeners are looking for great music, fresh voices, conversations that matter, what is happening on campus, or inspiration from across the capital, Westminster Waves aims to be the station at the heart of student life in London 💫

Music created by students from our School of Arts will be showcased through live sessions and regular new music features, while sports coverage will include live commentary opportunities for students developing broadcast journalism and sports media skills. Our Regent Street Cinema team will contribute regular film content, while our Press and students from our School of Media and Communication’s BJTC-accredited Multimedia Journalism will contribute editorial and news programming 👏

Launched on 1 June, our station combines professional broadcasting with community impact, giving our students and colleagues hands-on opportunities to develop creative, editorial and technical skills while creating content that resonates with London’s student audience ✨

Each volunteer receives training in radio production and Ofcom compliance, with the station also recognised as an approved provider for work experience by the BJTC - Broadcast Journalism Training Council. Supporting the project is award-winning broadcaster Jason Rosam , founder of Riverside Radio and an experienced presenter across BBC and commercial radio, who has joined Westminster Waves as Station Manager 👏

Boyan Dragomirov, a film alumnus of our university, was awarded the Best Student Showcase at the Little Venice Film Festival 2026 for his Bulgarian short film Reflection, which he edited and shot. The award recognises outstanding filmmaking by student creators, celebrating emerging talent and exceptional work produced within educational settings 🏆

The LVFF is an annual international film festival dedicated to independent filmmaking and new cinematic voices. Based in Little Venice, this year’s festival was held in April, championing stories that sit outside the mainstream and amplifying underrepresented voices, including female and LGBTQ+ filmmakers, while placing accessibility at its core. The festival presents features, documentaries and shorts that explore the lives and experiences of marginalised communities, alongside work from independent filmmakers from the UK and around the world 💫

Boyan's short film follows a man as he confronts his own sense of identity, using natural landscapes and close‑up visual storytelling to chart his search for clarity and self‑acceptance. The film blends observational moments with a restrained narrative style, allowing its themes of resilience and emotional honesty to emerge visually. Festival programmers highlighted its strong cinematography, cohesive visual language and confident pacing - qualities that contributed to its selection for the Best Student Showcase award 👏

Our School of Life Sciences recently hosted its 23rd annual event in collaboration with Science4u to inspire Year 9-11 students from London schools to study science. This year’s theme, Science for Sports, focused on unlocking human potential and learning from each other 🙌

The Annual Schools Science Conference, science4u, was launched in 2003 to inspire pupils from London to study science through demonstrating its importance in everyday life and showcasing future career options. Its success was recognised in 2020 when it was awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 🏆

Our university has hosted the event since 2015 and welcomes 350 students and their teachers from secondary schools across London each year. The schools are joined by 80-100 scientists from organisations including the NHS, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Charity, the Institute of Biomedical Science, as well as a range of universities and pharmaceutical companies 💫

This year’s theme focused on unlocking human potential and exploring how the body’s systems – muscular, skeletal, respiratory, cardiovascular and neurological – work together to fuel peak athletic performance and how that knowledge can inform us about health more generally. Held in April at our Cavendish Campus, the day had a range of interactive demonstrations, displays, workshops, lectures and presentations revealing how healthcare scientists are the hidden champions behind both top-tier athletes and everyday wellbeing, from game-changing technologies and sports psychology to nutrition, physiotherapy and injury prevention 💛

The event was sponsored by A. Menarini Farmaceutica Internazionale SRL, the Philip King Charitable Trust and the Strand Parishes Trust. It was also supported by GE HealthCare, Globe Locums, Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, Mast Group, Miltenyi Biotec, STEM Ambassadors, STEM Learning, the UK Health Security Agency and una health, whose contributions make the conference possible each year 👏

We welcomed students, colleagues and community partners to a special Wesak Day celebration at our Regent Street Campus as part of our World in Westminster Festival series 💫

Our World in Westminster programme forms part of our Westminster Programme for Enhancing Inclusion, Belonging and Sustainable Development, bringing communities together through cultural understanding, reflection and shared experiences 💛

Observed by millions around the world, Wesak Day, also known as Buddha Day, commemorates the birth, enlightenment and passing of the Buddha. The celebration at our university began with an opening welcome and prayers, followed by a ceremonial offering by Dhruv Patel CBE, the High Sheriff of Greater London, who presented a traditional Tibetan khata, a white ceremonial scarf, at the altar and lit the Tibetan lamp. The prayers were offered by Geshe Tenzin Namdak, Resident Teacher at Jamyang Buddhist Centre, and Ven Thubten Drolma, Director of Jamyang Buddhist Centre 🙌

Attendees then heard an address from Professor Dibyesh Anand, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement and Employability, who reflected on the significance of our university as well as his own long-standing relationship with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, highlighting how it has been 13 years since the Dalai Lama visited our university 🫶

Representative Tsering Yangkey of the Office of TIBET, London, also joined the celebration and recited the official Wesak message from the Dalai Lama and shared her own reflections on compassion, peace and collective responsibility. The programme also featured a calming sound healing session led by Kunchok Nyima, a teacher of Tibetan meditation, yoga and sound healing. Formerly a Tibetan Buddhist monk, he now lives in the UK. Along with his wife Georgie, he founded Foothills of Tibet, a Tibetan handicraft shop established in 2013. His singing bowl meditation session provided attendees with a moment of stillness, mindfulness and reflection ✨

The event concluded with a guided loving-kindness meditation led by our university’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Rajat Shah, encouraging participants to cultivate compassion for themselves and others while reinforcing the themes of inclusion and wellbeing 👏
