If you're in Manchester today and want to experience what's often billed the greatest free show on earth head over to Saddleworth and Tameside for the White Friday march contests. Some of the greatest brass bands in the world down to beginner and small community bands compete side by side in a tradition stretching back over a century. Several bands have links to VCM through the years and a number have had music written for them by our former Principals. Maybe the most performed is the signature tune of the Brighouse and Rastrick Band , West Riding by our one time Principal in the 1960s and 70s Sam B. Wood.

Big News! Speech and Drama exams now recognised by OfQual!

We are thrilled to announce that our grades 6 to 8 exams in the following Speech and Drama subjects are now regulated alongside Musical Theatre:

Speech
Solo Acting
Reading Aloud
Public Speaking

These subjects will now receive OfQual branded certificates and UCAS points in conjunction with
The Learning Machine. This brings them alongside our music performance grades and allows for use in University entrance and international recognition as they are on the Regulated Qualifications Framework in the UK and the European Qualifications Framework at Level 3.

If you enjoy telling stories through song and acting then Musical Theatre is for you. Musical Theatre integrates song, speech and story. In VCM Musical Theatre exams we assess communication through the entire performance, not just one skill.

When Children Rule the World from Whistle Down the Wind at Grade 3 is a great example of the skills involved.
