Yesterday, Queen Mary University of London welcomed a delegation of Members of Parliament from the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (Turkish Parliament/TBMM), as part of a UK fact-finding programme on equality, inclusion, accessibility and non-discrimination in higher education.

The visit was chaired by Professor Colin Bailey, who shared the University's approach to social mobility, widening participation, diversity and inclusion, as well as the role of higher education in driving positive social change.

The Turkish delegation was particularly interested in Queen Mary's work to remove barriers to participation and ensure all students can thrive. Discussions focused on creating inclusive learning environments, supporting students from diverse backgrounds and improving accessibility across higher education.

This June, Queen Mary is proud to be celebrating Pride Month. 🌈

Inspired by the themes of visibility, community, inclusion and action, our programme is designed to bring our community together, amplify voices and create opportunities for everyone to learn, reflect and take part.

As Dr Philippa Lloyd , Vice-Principal (Policy and Strategic Partnerships), highlights:

Queen Mary University of London welcomed delegates from the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) China, for discussions on the future development of our partnership in actuarial science, insurance and artificial intelligence.

During the visit, Professor Jun Wen, Vice President of UIBE and Professor Wen Wang, Vice President for Science and Engineering at Queen Mary, exchanged ideas on academic collaboration, programme development, student opportunities and future cooperation between our two institutions.

Congratulations to Professor J. Louise Jones and Professor Andrew Prendergast on being elected Fellows of the Academy of Medical Sciences.

The Fellowship recognises exceptional leadership and achievement in advancing medical science, improving healthcare and delivering benefits to patients and communities.

Professor Jones, based at Barts Cancer Institute (Queen Mary University of London) recognised for her pioneering work in breast pathology, cancer genomics and precision medicine, including leadership in integrating molecular diagnostics and AI into pathology practice.

Professor Prendergast, based at the Blizard Institute, Institute, has built an international reputation for research in paediatric infection, immunity and nutrition, with a particular focus on improving child health outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa.

Professor Wen Wang, Vice-President for Science and Engineering, and Chair of the University AI Strategy Group, represented Queen Mary University of London at the World Digital Education Conference 2026 in Hangzhou, China.

In his presentation, Professor Wang highlighted Queen Mary’s approach to embedding AI across the University, while also reflecting on the importance of international collaboration in navigating the opportunities and challenges of AI in higher education.
