☀️ The sun is shining, the BBQ is being prepared, and in just a few hours we'll be welcoming 130 Old Tridents back to Trent College, HMC Independent School for our Alumni Summer Gathering! 🎉

From the Class of 2015 through to the Class of 2025, this evening brings together a generation of alumni who completed their time at Trent during Bill Penty's twelve years as Head.

The setting couldn't be better 🌳☀️🍔

With temperatures reaching 28°C, a BBQ setting on the gardens, and the wonderful backdrop of the OT cricket and hockey matches, we're looking forward to an evening of reconnecting with friends, sharing memories, celebrating achievements and raising a toast together 🏑🏏🥂

All we need now is the people... and thankfully you're on your way soon! 😎

Safe travels to everyone joining us this evening. We can't wait to welcome you back to Trent.

🎓✍️ It's always a great sight to see the Year 11 pupils enjoying this annual Trent tradition, filling their shirts with messages, memories and good wishes as they reach the end of an important chapter. 💙

It got us wondering about all the OTs who came before them...

👕 Do you still have your signed school shirt?
📸 Better yet, do you have a photo of it?

We'd love to see how many shirt-signing keepsakes have survived the years! 😊

🌳 Yesterday we hosted the first of this Spring/Summer's Arboretum Tours, led by the ever-insightful David Pinney. After the extreme heat we've experienced recently, it was a relief to have a pleasant breeze blowing through the trees as we meandered through the grounds of Trent College, HMC Independent School, with a pit stop for ice cream 🍦 at the half-way point!

📅 There are just two dates remaining in the calendar to enjoy a guided tour led by David Pinney, before he retires at the end of this summer after almost 50 years:

🌿 Monday 6 July at 6.00 pm - 8.30 pm
🌿 Saturday 15 August at 9.30 am - 12.00 pm

Please do come along and see us, enjoy the wonderful grounds of our school 🌳 and celebrate all that David has contributed, not only through leading such informative tours with his great humour, but also through his dedication to Trent College and our alumni community. 👏

📖 Everyone attending an Arboretum Tour receives an information booklet with details of tree species and locations.

For more details and to book onto one of the tours, visit the OT Network events page👇

Year 13 students took an important step this week in thinking about life beyond Trent College, HMC Independent School, exploring what it means to stay connected as future Old Tridents.

During the session, 'Class of 2026' students discovered how our alumni network can support them long after they leave, through mentoring, career connections, events and the OT Network platform.

We were also delighted to welcome back Old Trident Amalia Morris (Class of 2021), now studying Medicine at Newcastle University, who shared honest reflections and practical advice about transitioning to university life.

Her message was clear: take your time, explore opportunities you genuinely enjoy, and be proactive, whether that’s joining societies, volunteering, or building new connections.

These sessions are about more than information, they help students see what’s possible. By connecting them with our alumni, we’re opening doors, building confidence, and reminding them they’re part of a community that will support them long after they leave.

A big thank you to Amalia for inspiring the students and reinforcing the strength of the Old Trident community.

In our latest 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐧𝐨𝐰? feature read how 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐲𝐚 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐞 (Class of 2013) went from Geography classrooms to wedding venues and major events, building a career that blends creativity, organisation and working with people.

Her story is a brilliant example of how career paths don’t always follow a straight line.

After six years in teaching, Freya took the leap to launch her own wedding and events planning business and now works on everything from weddings to charity balls and corporate events.

Freya reflects on taking an unexpected career path, working alongside her sisters, and why following your passions matters 👇
