Good luck to everyone taking on the this weekend.

For those who make it to the finish line, this is what’s waiting for you.

This year’s official finisher T-shirt has been designed by our Graphic Design student Faris Owynat.

Born and raised in the city, Faris has brought Manchester’s culture, creativity and grit into the design, weaving the marathon route into the logo alongside subtle nods to the city, including a hidden bee pattern formed through blue and red lines.

As Faris puts it, “Finishing a marathon takes so much effort, and I wanted the T-shirt to feel like a proper reward.”

A Northern Christmas through the years ✨

Every clip comes from the North West Film Archive, revealing the stories and traditions that shaped generations of families across our region.

And these are only a glimpse of what the Archive holds - an incredible resource at and the home of the moving-image heritage of the North West.

What’s your favourite northern Christmas memory?

A Christmas throwback 🎄

Swipe through to see two special pieces of festive history from our Special Collections Museum:

⭐ Manchester School of Art Christmas card proofs (1938/39)

Designed by Norman Clifford Jaques - first a student here, then a member of staff. These scraperboard prints are original proofs, complete with Jaques’ own printing notes. A glimpse into the craft and teaching heritage preserved in our Manchester School of Art Archive.

⭐ The first commercially available Christmas card (1843)

Part of our Laura Seddon Collection - over 32,500 greetings cards from the 19th and 20th centuries, donated by the women who collected them. This historic card was designed by John Callcott Horsley for Henry Cole (later the founding director of the V&A and a key figure in establishing the modern postal service). It’s widely regarded as the first commercially produced Christmas card.
