This year marks the 154th anniversary of Trinity College London, and we’re proud to be entering our 10th year as a Trinity CertTESOL provider. 🙌 🎉

Over the last decade, we’ve had the privilege of training and supporting teachers from a huge range of backgrounds, watching trainees develop their confidence, skills and careers in ELT.

We’ve seen the course evolve through enormous changes, including COVID, moving from fully face to face delivery to the blended format we run today.

We’re proud to be celebrating not just our own milestone, but the achievements of all the trainees who have been part of the journey over the years.

Happy anniversary Trinity College London! 🥂 🎉

Certificate time! 🎓

From January to April 2026, we ran two Trinity CertTESOL courses with a wonderful bunch of trainees.

The CertTESOL is not an easy course. It takes up a lot of time, requires a huge amount of commitment and can be a real challenge to juggle alongside work, family and other responsibilities. I'm very proud to say that all 24 trainees passed! 🎉

January starts are always interesting! We begin in the dead of winter, with short days, dark evenings and everyone wondering quite what they've signed up for! The course can feel intense at first. There is a lot to take in, a lot to do and a lot to balance. But as the weeks progress, we move into spring, confidence grows, trainees support one another and things begin to click into place. Before you know it, we're finishing the course in the middle of a UK heatwave, celebrating successful completion and certificates finally arriving through the post.

One of the things I love most about the course is the mix of people it brings together. Our trainees come from all sorts of different backgrounds and career paths. Some are recent graduates, some are looking for a career change, some want to teach abroad or online, and others are already volunteering or working in community, education or support roles and want to strengthen their practice.

Some trainees completed their teaching practice face to face, others online, but everyone trained together over many Monday evenings and Friday mornings. Seeing trainees support one another, share ideas, overcome challenges and grow in confidence is one of the best parts of running the course.

Lovely to receive their feedback and proud photos of them posing with their certificates!

Huge congratulations to all 24 trainees. You worked incredibly hard and should be very proud of yourselves. 🙌

“I felt that I could be doing the conversation classes better.”

Before starting the Trinity CertTESOL, Marg was already supporting ESOL learners through informal community conversation classes. However, she wanted to develop the skills and confidence needed to deliver more structured and effective English language support for learners from refugee and migrant backgrounds.

In this short testimonial, Marg reflects on how the course helped her better understand lesson planning, learner needs, language analysis and teaching mixed-level groups. She also talks about how the qualification has improved the quality of the community ESOL support she provides.

A huge thank you to Marg for sharing her experience. ❤️

Marg completed the course through an RSMP-funded training place.

“I had the theory. What I needed was real classroom experience.”

Before joining the Trinity CertTESOL, Fatima had already completed a Master’s degree in TESOL. She had a strong academic understanding of language teaching but no practical classroom experience.

That’s what led her to the Trinity CertTESOL.

In this short clip, Fatima talks honestly about the difference between studying teaching theory and actually standing in front of real learners.

She reflects on:
✔️ teaching practice with real ESOL learners
✔️ building confidence week by week
✔️ lesson planning and classroom management
✔️ learning how to respond in real teaching situations
✔️ bridging the gap between theory and practice

Like many trainees, Fatima describes the course as intensive — but absolutely worth it.

One of the biggest strengths of the Trinity CertTESOL is that trainees are teaching from the beginning, supported through detailed feedback, tutorials and reflective practice. For many people, this is where teaching really starts to make sense.

Fatima also talks about wanting to use her skills to support learners within her community and help people build confidence through English language learning.

🎓 Trinity CertTESOL — internationally recognised Level 5 TESOL qualification.

If you’re thinking about moving into ESOL teaching and wondering where to start, practical teaching experience really matters.

“I really wanted to take that next step and lead my own ESOL class.”

One of the most rewarding parts of delivering the Trinity CertTESOL is seeing trainees grow in confidence and begin making a real difference in their communities.

In this short clip, Abbie talks about how volunteering in refugee ESOL classes inspired her to move into ESOL teaching. After completing the course, she now leads her own ESOL classes twice a week.

As a recent university graduate, Abbie already had experience tutoring GCSE and A level students, but wanted to develop the specialist practical skills and confidence needed to teach ESOL effectively in the classroom.
She speaks honestly about the transition into ESOL teaching and the impact the course has had on her development as a teacher.

A huge thank you to Abbie for sharing her experience! 🙌
Her place on the course was funded through the RSMP ♥️

If you’re thinking about a career change, looking to move into ESOL teaching, or wanting to gain a recognised TESOL qualification, our next Trinity CertTESOL courses begin in September 2026.

Qualify by January 2027 and start the new year with an internationally recognised teaching qualification. ✨

“I wanted to help, but I wasn’t doing it as effectively as I could.”

Mark was already teaching English at GCSE and A Level , and volunteering to support refugees.

But he quickly realised that teaching English as a subject and teaching English as a language are very different.

That’s what led him to the Trinity CertTESOL.

✔️ Real teaching practice from the start
✔️ Supportive, detailed feedback
✔️ Practical skills you can actually use

No theory for the sake of it. Everything helps you become a better, more confident teacher.

Mark turned his motivation into real teaching skills — and now feels confident supporting his learners.

If you’re already teaching, volunteering, or thinking about moving into ESOL, this course gives you the foundation you need.

🎓 Plus, you’ll gain an internationally recognised Level 5 qualification.

April is full, but you can join us in September.

Mark’s Story – From Volunteering to Confident ESOL Teacher

“I realised I wanted to help, but I wasn’t doing it as effectively as I could.”

Before joining the course, Mark was already working in education, teaching English in a secondary school at GCSE level.

Alongside that, he was volunteering to support refugees with their English.
But what he realised quite quickly was that, although he had the motivation, teaching English as a subject and teaching English as a language require very different skills.

That’s what led him to the Trinity CertTESOL course.

Mark joined us on an RSMP-funded place, and what made the biggest difference for him was how practical everything is.

From the very beginning, you’re teaching real learners and getting detailed, supportive feedback after every lesson. It’s not just theoretical. It’s not abstract. Everything you do on the course feeds directly into your teaching.
There are no assignments for the sake of it. Every task, every input session, and every piece of feedback is there to help you improve and build confidence in the classroom.

For Mark, it meant he could take that motivation he already had and turn it into real teaching skill. He was able to support his learners much more effectively and feel confident in what he was doing.

If you’re already teaching, volunteering, or thinking about moving into ESOL, this course gives you the practical foundation you need to teach with confidence. It also leads to an internationally recognised Level 5 qualification that employers and organisations value.

Our April course is now full, but you can join us in September. If you’d like to know more, download our prospectus or visit our website. 🙂

Good luck to our CertTESOL trainees heading into moderation today! 🤞

A lot of hard work since January. Teaching practice, assignments, and plenty of late nights along the way.

The Trinity CertTESOL it’s not an easy course, but getting to this stage is a real achievement.

Final push now!

A big thank you to our teaching practice tutors for all their support Audrey, Zan, Marina and Carli 🙌 ♥️ 🙏

Such a thoughtful and powerful speech by Rebecca Long Bailey who represents Salford and our communities with compassion and integrity 🙏🏻❤️

‘Another community unfairly affected are the BNO visa holders from Hong Kong. For them, the five-year path to settlement must be protected and made permanent. Retrospective rule changes, excessive salary thresholds, or language barriers would simply betray the commitment this country made to people seeking safety and freedom….So I’d urge the Minister: stand for dignity, fairness, and humanity. Retain the five-year route to settlement and end retrospective changes. Protect refugees and the BNO families. Reform skilled worker visas so they prevent exploitation rather than enable it. And above all, recognise the simple truth that those who care for Britain are part of Britain.’ 🙌❤️
