Having visited the Summer Show 2024 I am pleased to say that the course is in good hands! I saw a post that a 'proud mum' posted of Lauren Bourne's display (showing a confident use of 3D Software and modelmaking) and was reminded of final major projects produced by some students for previous shows which Lauren would not be aware of. I wish Lauren and the cohort of 2024 good luck in their future endeavours.

Hi everyone, it's been a long time since I posted on the site so, this is something special! This year the 3D Diploma celebrates 40 years of placing students into higher education. This could well be one of my last personal projects for the course. As you know I have retired and want to spend some time doing things for myself. You can check me out on my own page Martyn Featherstone MBE and see what I an up to. So, as it is a special year I got in touch with some of our ex-students and they sent me some current images of their work and a job role description. I also used some images from ex-students and quotes which they sent me in the past but most are current! I still like to know what my ex-students are doing - so contact me via Messenger on my page if you want to. I have made one full film which I have sent to the school but for ease I have broken that film into three short films - please enjoy!! And please feel free to comment and share!!! Remember the films are not aimed at you but at current and potential students! Thank you and wishing you all a great design life!!!!

I will still visit this page from time to time. If any ex-students would like to contribute - please put images of your work up here whether current or old. It would be great to keep this page running. I was contacted recently by an ex-student who I taught from 2018 - 2020. I also got to teach him for a short period on the Foundation course 2020 - 2021. I may have retired but I am still interested in what my ex-students are doing now. Charlie Jefferson is studying car design at Coventry - he sent me these images this week of a car design and a more recent project he is currently working on for an electric car charging gun. Thanks Charlie!

After 20 years, the course has been re-branded again! It is no longer Interior, Architecture & Product Design. It is now called Interior, Architecture & Productions. I do not know whether this page will continue! I may have to wait until September to contact the relevant person to find out if it will continue as a 'historic archival' page. I was hoping to upload all the course photo archive onto here in the future!

In September the course will celebrate 40 years since it started in September 1982. I came back out of retirement to help out during the final throws of the final major project with second year students and the final minor project with first year students. I designed a slimmed down show - no large high boards or paint everywhere. I put together a simple template for the second year students to use for final presentation and had to do a few edits but this work wasn't being assessed! So, this is my last show before I finally return to retirement. I can now claim that I have taught every second year student who has completed the course since it started - 650 students.

Since I retired in August last year I have not posted much information on this page. I promised to upload student work but I have been rather busy. I have been given a really great opportunity to teach on the course again temporarily to cover the hours of Neil who left the school at Easter. I wanted to retire with a final summer show but Covid prevented that and now I have been given the chance to do so. So, this is an invitation to all my ex-students to come and see me and the new school on Wednesday 8 June 5-8pm and Saturday 11 June 10am-1pm. The course celebrates 40 years of 3D Design this year and I would love to hear what you are up to now and then I can return to my retirement a much happier OAP!!!

As well as second year 3D students I taught second year GAD students who were specialising in 3D Design. I think there were only 4 or 5 of them. Three of them though decided to study exhibition design so I was immensely proud that they were following in my footsteps, June 1984.

The 3D second year students were based on the top floor mezzanine. I watched them mount there own work and make a right mess of things - wasting mount board after cocking up cutting frames in the card. After that I ended up mounting nearly all of the students work until about 2009. I am still in touch with Stephen Spenceley (who, incidentally won an Oscar for Technical Achievement in 2002). There aren't many images of the second year work - these were photographs I took at the time. June 1984
