Week of action tackling launched
A week of action tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG) has launched across Cleveland.
The week (Thursday 30 March to Thursday 6th April) will see a continued focus on tackling some of the main contributing factors to VAWG offences, as well as raising public awareness and providing personal safety education to schools, colleges and businesses.
Officers will be patrolling popular night-time economy spots; they will be visiting licensed premises, raising awareness of the Ask for Angela campaign and handing out anti-spiking equipment, as well as providing a high-visibility presence and taking robust action against perpetrators.
Police will also raise awareness of VAWG alongside partner agencies such as Harbour, HALO, A Way Out and Street Angels.
Harbour and HALO will hold a stall in the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre alongside officers from Hartlepool Neighbourhood Policing Team.
VAWG Lead, Detective Superintendent Helen Barker said: “Tackling VAWG remains an absolute priority in policing across Cleveland. Any form of violence or inappropriate or unwelcome behaviour against females is unacceptable.
“Whilst we focus on tackling violence against women and girls all year round, this week of action gives us the opportunity to put an additional focus on to tackling offenders, raising awareness and providing education to the public about what forms abuse, and how to recognise the signs.
“The message from us is clear, any form of abuse against women and girls in Cleveland will not be tolerated and we will take action against those who think it’s acceptable.”
Messaging will be posted throughout the week on Cleveland Police social media channels. Follow Cleveland Police on Facebook or on Twitter Cleveland Police
