Our Story

We are the page for prospective and current international students at Teesside University. This page is run by the Department of International Development, which creates opportunities for international engagement. These include studying with us here at Teesside University, interactive learning across the globe and our extensive student mobility activities, which help our students to visit other countries.

Our Location

Teesside University is based in Middlesbrough, in the heart of the North East of England. It's a friendly multicultural town with many varieties of shops, supermarkets, cinemas, restaurants, clubs, sports and museums.

Appreciate the local beauty – countryside and historic towns – with two national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty. It's an area that many international tourists choose to visit.

Arrive here easily – Teesside International Airport is 13 miles from the University and Newcastle Airport is less than 50 miles away. You can reach London or Edinburgh by train in 2.5 hours, with cities such as York, Leeds, Newcastle and Durham 1.5 hours or less by road.

Our Campus

We have invested over £270m in our campus in recent years and plan to invest another £300m over the next decade. The Curve, our ultra-modern £22m five-storey teaching facility – providing a lecture theatre and flexible, innovative teaching and learning spaces – opened in 2015. We have undertaken a £6m expansion and upgrade of our science and engineering facilities, including a flight simulator and plant and jet engine simulation opened in 2016. A new £2.75m gym opened in 2016 – fitness and free weights areas, sprint track, multi-purpose studios and sauna.

We have invested £6m in refurbishing our library.

In October 2019, we opened our £12.5m National Horizons Centre, a state-of-the-art research, teaching and learning facility for the biosciences industry at our Darlington campus.

We're investing £12.5m in our Student Life building, which will be a one-stop shop for all student-facing services and is expected to be completed in Autumn 2019.
