As part of my Social Media Management module at Teesside University International Business School, I had the opportunity to work alongside Naisola Grimwood from the Institute of Genuine Humanity on Ndotopop — a digital art project exploring creativity through AI.

The project involved strategy development, content planning and seeing the work implemented live, offering valuable insight into how digital art and social media strategy intersect.

This experience brought theory into real-world practice and highlighted the power of AI-driven creativity in contemporary digital spaces. I’ve shared some of Ndotopop’s latest work below — check it out, like, follow and share 👇

🎉 University module reflection: From theory to strategic social media manager

After 12 weeks of intensive Social Media Management studies - culminating in my final Extended Critical Assessment (ECA) - I'm sharing my biggest takeaways in a quick video reflection.

What started as “posting content” has grown into strategy, storytelling, analytics, and meaningful connection.
This journey continues to teach me how powerful intentional digital presence can be - for brands and for people.

Here’s what I’ve learned👇

Experiential learning is learning through direct experience — where people actively take part, reflect, and apply learning in real-world situations.

This approach builds practical skills such as problem-solving, communication, and creativity. Learning becomes more meaningful, memorable, and easier to transfer into day-to-day practice.

As shown in this reel, experiential learning in action encourages collaboration, confidence, and real engagement — turning ideas into understanding through doing.

For organisations, experiential learning helps teams learn faster, retain knowledge longer, and respond better to customers. In marketing, it leads to stronger brand storytelling, more authentic customer experiences, and campaigns grounded in real insight rather than assumption.

Social media analytics provide valuable insigts for businesses in four key areas: marketing, PR, customer service, and brand management. These analytics help to optimise content performance, guide PR teams in managing the brand’s reputation, assist customer service in enhancing support, and enable brand managers to track engagement, ensuring consistent brand identity and loyalty across platforms.

Below I have discussed the several different types of analytics that should be evaluated individually yet also as a whole, to get the most efficient and successful outcomes in informing decisions being made, tracking social media performances, and gaining a deeper market/ audience insight.

Do you check your social media analytics? If nope do , tell us what apps or platforms you use top do this and what specific analytics do you find most insightful?

What Does a Social Media Manager Really Do?
It’s a lot more than posting nice photos or writing catchy captions! 📲💬

Social Media Managers wear many hats — strategist, creator, analyst, communicator, and sometimes even crisis-handler. From planning content that aligns with brand goals, to engaging with communities, managing reputation, analysing performance, and keeping up with endless platform updates… it’s a dynamic and demanding role that blends creativity with data every single day.

They navigate challenges like online negativity, ever-changing algorithms, and balancing creative ideas with detailed reporting — all while staying adaptable in a fast-moving digital world.

If you’ve ever appreciated a brand’s online presence, chances are a Social Media Manager is behind the scenes making it happen.

đź’¬ Question for You:
Which part of the social media manager role do you think is the toughest — content creation, analytics, or dealing with online challenges?
