New competition opportunities for Reaseheath equine students

Reaseheath College and University Centre has launched a new National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) programme, giving equine students the opportunity to gain competition experience and represent the college.

Open to riders of all abilities, the programme will give students the chance to compete in dressage and showjumping, while developing their confidence, teamwork and practical skills.

The programme is supported by experienced equine professionals, including Reaseheath lecturer and professional rider Tyler Simpson.

From no qualifications to a place at university - Rex's remarkable Reaseheath journey ✨

When Rex Colquhoun-Lynn arrived at Reaseheath, he had no formal qualifications and had been home-educated, with a love of practical learning but little experience of a traditional classroom.

Three years later, Rex has achieved a double Distinction star in Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Animal Management, 100% attendance, Student of the Term and Best Overall Student awards, and has secured a place at Bangor University to study Zoology with Conservation.

Along the way, Rex discovered a passion for entomology – the science of insects – and a confidence he didn't have when he first arrived.

“I think I’ve changed fundamentally as a person since coming to Reaseheath. I used to be rather shy and pessimistic, but now I am confident and determined.”

From a Foundation pathway to university, Rex’s journey is a brilliant reminder that there’s no single route into education and no limit to where a fresh start can take you.
