📢 3 Things To Know About Reversible Glue 🔬

Our researchers have created a reversible glue!

The benefits of this new formula could mean less pollution caused by electrical waste, and a new form of glue that supports recycling. 💡

We're thrilled to be leading a £1.4m project that's set to transform clinical research careers across the North of England. 🔬

The new MRC-funded programme will support clinicians in building research careers alongside frontline practice and will be delivered with 13 universities and NHS partners.

The scheme will offer funding, mentoring and protected research time to strengthen the clinical research workforce, accelerate innovation and improve patient outcomes across the region. 👏

A few weeks ago we welcomed alumni from our Law School back to campus to give them a sneak peek of our newly renovated Law Library 👀

Guests also had an opportunity to reconnect with each other and academics at the school, hear from recent graduates embarking on their legal career and meet students who are benefitting from alumni-funded scholarships 💙

It was great to catch up with Law graduates and to hear where life has taken them since their university days. If you'd like to hear about future alumni events make sure your contact details and preferences are up-to-date.

We're proud to share that we will be one of 130 universities and colleges approved to offer new bite sized courses for adults! 👏

With applications opening this September, new Lifelong Learning Entitlement funding will help support adults balancing responsibilities, such as work and childcare, to gain a new route into university and college.

An artificial nose developed by our researchers is helping to sniff out food waste! 👃

Led by Dr Oktay Çetinkaya, the Waste-Not! project has developed low-cost sensors that can detect odours associated with food degradation. Helping to support families and businesses, as well as avoiding food waste.

"We believe this odour-sensing technology can be adapted for early detection of mould in homes, addressing another critical issue in indoor environments.”

At 4:45am on 26 May, while most of Newcastle is still asleep, our final year students Harry and Raff will be standing on the first tee, about to begin four rounds of golf in a single day for a cause that means a great deal to both of them.

They are raising money for MANUP?, a charity dedicated to men’s mental health, and will donate money for every achievement they make throughout the day.

Harry and Raff met in Freshers’ Week and quickly became close friends. Somewhere between lectures and life at university, golf became a huge part of that friendship. 🏌️

“Golf’s been a really good outlet for us,” Harry says. “You’re outside, walking, exercising, spending time with your mates. It clears your head a bit.”

Raff only really got into golf during his second year at university, at a time when he was struggling with his mental health and finding the pressure of his degree difficult to manage.

“I found it was something to work at outside of uni,” he says. “It gave me something positive to focus on and honestly helped me through a really difficult time.”

For both of them, the challenge is about far more than golf, the pair hopes their fundraiser encourages more young men to speak openly about mental health and realise they do not have to struggle on their own.

They have already raised over £3000, and we are incredibly proud of these two young men!
