It’s that time of year again 🇿🇦

2 staff members and 12 of our students have landed in South Africa where they’ll spend the next couple of weeks volunteering with local children in rural KwaZulu-Natal!

We’re so proud of our Level 1 Sport and Uniformed Protective Services students for getting stuck in to a Longsands Beach clean up recently 💙🌊

Joining over 40 volunteers, our learners took part in the beach clean organised by Tynemouth Aquarium – helping to remove an incredible 28 bags of litter in under an hour!

The day wasn’t just about cleaning up – it was a brilliant opportunity for students to learn more about conservation, protecting our seas and how their everyday actions can make a difference.

The Aquarium team even praised our students for their enthusiasm and thoughtful approach to the activity 👏

It was a full circle moment for alum Michael Mather who came back to chat to our Performance Academy students about going from college to touring the world as Fiyero in Wicked 🌍

Now, he’s coming home to share his own story ❤️

We can’t wait to watch Michael perform ‘365 Home Edition’ at the Custom’s House tomorrow night for a one night only honest, raw and personal show which brings his life story back to where it all began!

A design worth running for 👏 🏃

After weeks of entries and judging, the winning design for our Great North Run ‘Blue Wave’ t-shirt has now been chosen - created by Level 3 Graphic Design student Frank Taylor!

His incredible design will be worn by hundreds of staff and students taking part in this year’s 10km and 5km events 💙

Another example of student creativity being brought to life through a real-world brief.

Congrats Frank - and we can't wait to see the shirt in action later this year!

This time last week, our students took over a game, and what a night it was 🏀🔥

From running matchday operations and hospitality to filming, entertaining and keeping everything moving behind the scenes, our students were everywhere. They didn’t just help out… they made the night happen.

Over the Easter holidays, our Hair and Makeup students volunteered to support WEOS’ production of Hello Dolly! at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House, and what an experience it was!

From transforming the cast to helping them get stage‑ready, students played a key role behind the scenes as part of the production team. Huge thanks to WEOS for offering such brilliant placement opportunities and for treating our students like part of the family.

The show was amazing, and it was wonderful to see our students’ work shine on a professional stage. We can’t wait to do it all again with 42nd Street next year 🎭
