Newcastle University Cognitive Development Lab Welcome to the Newcastle University Cognitive Development Lab Page! BUT TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Like our page to receive updates on the exciting projects going on in our lab and for information regarding current and upcoming studies that your child may be able to participate in! We check this page daily (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm) and so will be able to answer any enquiries quickly. In terms of what we are interested in:

Research suggests that infants possess a remarkable ability to learn and retain

knowledge. Shortly after birth, infants can distinguish their mother’s voice and by 3- to 4-days-old, he or she can recognise their mother’s face. However, in stark contrast to this ability, adults will almost certainly be unable to recollect a single episode from their infancy, because during this period infants are considered to experience a form of memory loss known as infantile amnesia. One goal of the Newcastle University Cognitive Development Lab is to attempt to understand why this is, as well as asking a range of questions designed to better understand how our children learn to remember. Additional projects focus on learning more about how children navigate their social world, including how they learn new skills from watching others. IF YOU, AND YOUR CHILD, ARE INTERESTED IN TAKING PART IN ANY OF OUR FUN EXPERIMENTS PLEASE E-MAIL ALEXANDRA - [email protected]. WE NEED BABIES AND CHILDREN OF ALL AGES FOR OUR CURRENT AND UPCOMING EXPERIMENTS.
