Language Resource Centre Enrichment Week: 07/11 - 11/11.

The LRC will be hosting a range of language taster sessions during "Enrichment Week" from the 7th to the 11th of November 2022!

There will be a wide range of language taster sessions for you to attend, including Welsh, Polish, Spanish, Croatian, Japanese, French, Greek ... and MANY more!

TANDEM EVENING - WEDNESDAY 26TH OCTOBER - 16:45 - 18:00

We would love for you to join us in the Language Resource Centre at our Tandem Evening Event!
The evening is a chance for you to meet new people and hopefully find someone to practise your target language with after the event.
There will be refreshments, stalls from other teams you can get involved with during your time in Newcastle and a prize raffle.

The LRC sends a big welcome/welcome back to all students joining us this term. We hope you are all feeling refreshed after the Summer break and ready for the new semester! We'd like to remind you that here in the LRC we are back to our regular opening hours, and there is still plenty for you to be involved with to practise your languages during this term...

Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) Programme:

From October, we will be continuing to offer 1 - to - 1 practice sessions in Arabic, British Sign Language, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish!

1 - to - 1 sessions are individual 20 -minute sessions suitable for students at ANY level - even beginners! They are ideal for keeping up your language skills, especially if you have language exams coming up!

You can sign up to the programme by completing our Online Registration Form:

Online Tandem Board:

If you haven't already done so, you can join our Online Tandem Board, where you can find tandem partners to practise with! There will also be a Tandem Evening in the centre towards the end of October, where you can come and mingle with other students looking to find a partner! More information on this will be sent out in the coming weeks, so keep your eyes peeled as spaces will be limited!

The LRC is so thrilled to announce that Alice Casey, our Senior Student Language Ambassador and PAL Leader, has won the NU Student Worker of the Year award!!

This prize is part of the Contribution to the Workplace awards which took place last night. We are so pleased to celebrate Alice and the Routes Into Language engagement programme, and even more pleased that the importance of the programme and Alice's efforts over the past year are being recognised!

Visit the Academic Skills Team at their pop-up in the Language Resource Centre this week!

The Language Resource Centre is hosting a Pop-Up from the Academic Skills Team from 11-1pm on Thursday 5th May
Come along to chat to the team about your academic skills questions.

They can offer advice and guidance on a range of academic and study skills topics, for all stages of study, whether it’s interpreting an essay question, managing your time, reading critically, planning structure, revising for exams or editing a final draft.

They'll also be able to show you the wide range of resources and support they have on offer. There is no need to book a slot, just come along and meet the team!
