This session will focus on Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and the Viking Past (session led by Christina Fluharty, who is currently writing her Scandinavian Studies at Aberdeen MLitt dissertation on representations of trade in AC:Valhalla)

In another response to Spangen’s keynote, Charlotta Hillerdal argues that archaeology cannot afford neutrality. In a world shaped by climate crisis, inequality, and rising anti-democratic forces, archaeology must not settle for interpretation of the past and simple dialogue in the present. Through teaching, research and academic leadership, she has helped deepen understanding of Europe’s past while supporting the next generation of historians.

Students on the MLitt Viking and Medieval Nordic Studies along with other PGTs in the Department of History, University of Aberdeen took part in a roundtable with University of Aberdeen Collections today as part of the Approaching Archives course, with items from early cuneiform tablets c.2800 BCE to records of anti-apartheid student protests in the 1980s!
