Alumna Laura Ellis is making her mark in the tech world!

Robotics and Artificial Intelligence alumna Laura Ellis has turned the skills she developed at Edge Hill into not one, but two apps – all while working full-time in IT Support at North West Ambulance Service.

Laura taught herself mobile app development and spent six months creating Yourdo, a community guide-sharing app designed to help people share practical knowledge, advice and experiences. Since launching, Yourdo has been featured on Product Hunt, giving Laura and her friend Dan the chance to showcase their work to a community of entrepreneurs, developers and early adopters.

And Laura’s latest project is already making waves! Just three days after launching Life-Fixer, an all-in-one productivity app designed to help users organise their lives, it reached number five in the Productivity charts on the Apple App Store. Her Reddit post about the app has also attracted more than 120,000 views, with downloads coming from the UK, Canada and the US.

Laura credits her time at Edge Hill with helping her develop the independence, confidence and time-management skills she’s drawn on throughout her career.

We did it – twice! 🎉

A huge thank you to our alumni who took the time to vote for Edge Hill’s Archives team in the Archives & Records Association (ARA) Awards.

We’re delighted to share that Edge Hill University has come away with two prestigious national awards.

🌟New Professional of the Year – congratulations to our fantastic Archive Apprentice, Aimy S!

🌟Recordkeeping Service of the Year – recognising the incredible work of our entire Archives team.

We couldn’t have done it without the support of our Edge Hill community. Thank you to everyone who voted, shared our posts and helped spread the word.

Archivist Dan Copley shared: "Thanks to everyone who has worked with the archive service over the past 18 months, including Dee McMahon, Rachel Bird, Sophie Smith, Anna França, Rachel Bury and all our outstanding student volunteers."

A huge congratulations to Dan, Aimy and the whole Archives team – what an achievement! 👏

Inspiring inside and outside the classroom: Alumnus Dafydd’s incredible charity journey

After graduating from Edge Hill with a BSc (Hons) Science with Physics with Qualified Teacher Status in 2014, Dafydd Helps-Fursse has built an incredible teaching career, from working in schools across the UK to spending five years teaching in the United Arab Emirates and leading student expeditions to Nepal and Borneo.

Alongside his career in education, Dafydd has a passion for endurance challenges. Having already rowed the Atlantic Ocean in 41 days, he's now setting his sights on crossing the South Pole to raise awareness of men's mental health and support charities including CALM and Andy's Man Club.

Thirty years after meeting as students at Edge Hill, alumni Cathie and Scott Gibbens are celebrating two incredible milestones.

This August marks their 30th wedding anniversary, and Cathie has recently been appointed Mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, following Scott's term as Mayor last year. Together, they are the first married couple in the borough's history to complete all four civic roles of deputy consort, deputy mayor, consort and mayor.

A chance meeting over pancake recipes on campus lead to careers dedicated to education, public service and their local community, their story is a wonderful reminder of where an Edge Hill education can lead.

Congratulations, Cathie and Scott, on your achievements – and thank you for sharing your inspiring journey with us.
