Nearly 400 years ago, St John’s threw a sumptuous feast for King Charles I and the royal court to celebrate the opening of Canterbury Quad.

Congratulations to Professor KJ Patel, Director of the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine and a member of St John’s Governing Body, on being awarded the Royal Society’s Buchanan Medal for 2026 in recognition of his distinguished contribution to the biomedical sciences!

The Buchanan Medal was previously awarded to Professor Sir Rory Collins, Emeritus Research Fellow in Epidemiology at St John’s, in 2025. The College is delighted to maintain its tradition of biomedical research excellence.
