In Race & Class (an Institute of Race Relations journal), DPIR's Musab Younis argues that โ€œgreat replacementโ€ panic is rooted in a demographic tradition shaped by settler colonialism. Fears of White decline, he contends, help sustain racial hierarchy by framing equality as a threat: https://f.mtr.cool/mypdhpixbw

"I would like universities in the UK to embed volunteering into the system so that students understand that, they who have achieved so much themselves, can give back and each increment adds up to make societal change."

PPE alumna and Tutor the Nation (TTN) founder Jacky Lambert discusses during National Volunteering Week (1-8 June) how universities and departments like DPIR can play a bigger role in supporting initiatives like TTN, a UK charity that connects university volunteers with under-resourced GCSE and A-Level pupils in state schools with free, one-to-one online tutoring.

On Thursday, 18 June 2026, DPIR welcomes United Nations Under Secretary General for Peace Operations, Jean Pierre Lacroix, for a public lecture on building and keeping peace โ€“ 'The Difficult Journey of Peace: Challenges and Opportunities for Peace Operations in a Fragmented World.'

๐Ÿ“ Oxford University Museum of Natural History
๐Ÿ•” 5pm โ€“ 6:15pm

Drawing on his experience leading UN peace operations, he will reflect on:

โ€ข The political drivers behind todayโ€™s conflicts
โ€ข Why peace-making and political processes remain essential
โ€ข The tension between political urgency and the patience peace demands
โ€ข The shared responsibility of states and the international community

This event marks the conclusion of the inaugural Peace and Security Fellowship, a joint programme between Oxford and the UN bringing serving UN practitioners to Oxford to conduct policy relevant research on peacekeeping and conflict prevention.

Peace is a long road. This conversation matters.
