One thing I’ve realized in nursing practice is that confidence is built over time, and experience grows with every patient encounter. The theoretical knowledge and research we learn in school are never a waste—they are the foundation that helps us understand what real nursing practice truly looks like.

Every different patient I meet reminds me of anatomy and physiology, medical-surgical nursing, and the importance of compassionate care. Today, I celebrate the school that trained me and the hospitals that helped shape my experience, skills, and confidence over the years.

Why is nobody talking about the emotional weight of working in a paediatric unit? God… how am I surviving this?

Watching a 2-year-old come into the anaesthetic room for surgery changes you. The mothers try so hard to smile at the beginning, trying to stay strong for their babies, but the moment the child goes to sleep under anaesthesia, the tears begin to fall. Quiet, painful tears that say everything words cannot explain.

And then there are the fathers — standing strong on the outside while silently breaking inside. It’s impossible not to feel their pain.

My first day, I cried alone in the toilet because all I could think about was what those parents were going through. The only thing that comforted me was knowing the surgery could bring healing, relief, and smiles again afterwards.

Today, I celebrate every child — at home, at school, and in hospital beds fighting battles they don’t even understand yet. And to every parent standing strong for their child through fear and uncertainty, you are seen. ❤️

Today is Children’s Day, yet somewhere tonight, parents are crying themselves to sleep because their children were taken from them. A 2-year-old child, along with many others, kidnapped and taken to an unknown place. The pain, fear, and helplessness those families must feel is unimaginable.

How did we get here as humanity? How did people lose their conscience, their compassion, their sense of right and wrong? It breaks my heart to even think about it. Right now, I honestly don’t know anymore.

I really want to come online every day, but lately, fear fills my heart. Every time you open social media, it’s another heartbreaking story a student nurse r***d and murdered, a teacher beheaded, students and teachers held captive. It’s painful.

People think some of us are strong, but truthfully, many of us are bleeding silently inside, helplessly watching these tragedies unfold. My heart bleeds for Nigeria.

I pray that God intervenes and brings peace, healing, and protection to our nation. And I also plead with the government to rise to its responsibility and take urgent action. Nigerians deserve to live without fear.
