Congratulations to all Univ crews on a fantastic Summer Eights 2026.

W1 secured Headship of the River, while M3 and W3 both won Blades. W3 also achieved the largest rise of any crew on the river, climbing an incredible 8 places across the week, while M3 rose 6 places, the biggest gain of any men’s crew.

There were strong performances throughout the boat club, with W2 gaining 3 places, W4 gaining 4 places, and the Beer Boat gaining 3 places. M1 finished 5th on the river after an exciting campaign.

Thank you to all rowers, coxes, coaches, and supporters for their commitment, determination, and enthusiasm throughout the week. What a result for Univ rowing!

On Thursday 21 May, we were delighted to welcome Univ alumnus Nick Robinson (1983, PPE), journalist and presenter on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme back to College for a fascinating discussion on the impartiality of broadcast news.

Thank you to Nick for sharing his insights and experiences, and to everyone who joined us and contributed to a lively and engaging conversation. It was wonderful to see so many members of the Univ community together for the event.

Highlights from the inaugural Sir Ivor and Lady Crewe Chamber Concert, held on Saturday 9 May 2026.

The concert marked the first in a new series celebrating the contributions of Sir Ivor Crewe, Honorary Fellow and Master of Univ from 2008–2020, and Lady Crewe to the College.

Performed by the and Martlet Voices, the programme explored contemporary reflections on some of the choral tradition’s most celebrated works.

To celebrate Eights Week 2026, we report on a remarkable new arrival in the College which commemorates a rowing crew from 1903, but is quite unlike anything else which Univ has ever received.

Eights Week, Oxford’s annual Summer Eights rowing races, is one of the highlights of the College calendar and a longstanding student tradition on the Isis.

The Master’s Lodgings at Univ, built between 1877 and 1879, was designed by architects George Bodley and Thomas Garner in a 16th-century style to complement the historic College surroundings. A remarkable piece of architecture at the heart of Univ.

Professor Peter Norreys (Supernumerary Fellow in Physics and Professor of Inertial Fusion Science, hosted an afternoon tea in the Butler Room last week to celebrate the publication of the paper Letters to Nature, co-authored by current students Heath Martin and Rusko Ruskov alongside Robin Timmis (Physics, 2020), who graduated on Saturday.

A wonderful occasion recognising collaboration, research, and academic achievement.
