Meet Jordan, one of our Plant Science students 👋 Earlier this year, Jordan completed a placement as a Junior Ecologist at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden in South Africa!

This placement was to aid his dissertation research and fieldwork on Roridula, a plant genus endemic to South Africa. Jordan's role on placement was incredibly varied, touching on almost every aspect of botanical garden management and ecological conservation, including seed conservation, specialist propagation and herbarium research 🌿

What an incredible opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a world-renowned botanical garden!

Last week our Garden & Landscape Design students attended the Great Garden Show at The Newt in Somerset, exploring ideas, meeting industry professionals and gaining insight into some of the UK’s most exciting gardens and landscapes 🌳🌿

Students also attended a range of talks, including a talk from Andy Jasper from here at the Eden Project, sharing the story behind the iconic biomes, their design, and future ambitions. And we had the chance to explore the beautifully managed gardens and landscapes of the Newt itself!

Katie is studying horticulture with us & is spending her summer gaining practical experience at Treraven Farm, supporting community veg growing & learning alongside experienced growers. A brilliant example of how study & real‑world experience go hand in hand!

We've done our first dormouse check of the season with two of our MSc students - no dormice yet but it is still early! 🐁

Spring has definitely sprung, with 13 birds nests and 6 woodmice nests in the boxes. In the absence of dormice, students practiced their small mammal handling with the woodmice.

Today we're wishing the Eden Project a big happy 25th birthday! 🎉

We're incredibly proud to work in partnership with the Eden Project, developing a unique set of higher education programmes which complement Eden's ethos to demonstrate and inspire positive action for the planet.

These programmes are taught within the Eden Project's unique learning environment, offering students an academic education and also practical, hands-on experience on the grounds of this globally renowned organisation. We look forward to continuing to work together to support the next generation in making the world a better place for all 💚🌍
