Centre for Mountain Studies, UHI Perth CMS was established at UHI Perth in 2000 as a centre of excellence for research and teaching

The Centre for Mountain Studies (CMS) was established at Perth College UHI in August 2000, with the objective of creating a centre of excellence for work in mountain areas within the emerging University of the Highlands and Islands. With a focus on mountain environments and the people who depend on them, both in Scotland and internationally, the CMS has four main goals:
- To undertake and communic

ate high-quality research;
- To convene meetings to disseminate and discuss knowledge and to develop research agendas;
- To contribute to informed policy-making processes;
- To lead in the development and delivery of academic courses and training.

βž• We were pleased to welcome a group of students from Appalachian State University in North Carolina to the campus on Friday πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

The group, led by Dr Elizabeth Shay and consisting of thirteen undergraduate students and two staff members, are travelling around Scotland as part of a Study Abroad programme and were keen to learn more about the work of the Centre for Mountain Studies, UHI Perth, as well as the wider university.

They were treated to talks by Centre Director Dr Rosalind Bryce, Researcher Dr Mike Daniels, MRes students Daniel Martin and Jane Busienei, and Research Fellow Dr Bobby Macaulay, collectively outlining the range of work and activity ongoing at CMS. There was some very positive interaction between the students and speakers, and it is hoped that this visit will lead to stronger ongoing connections between UHI and ASU.
