Today was Inset at Odils

It was fantastic to welcome back all our teaching staff in preparation for term start next week.

The day started with departmental updates from managers and a charity update from our wonderful Director, Chris. This was followed by some fun team building activities, including a great quiz, which brought out people’s competitive side to say the least.

Next up was the Odils Long Service Awards. These are given to staff members at certain milestones in their Odils career, starting at the 5 year mark. Chris presented awards to 5 amazing staff members for their long service and commitment to the important work we carry out as a small charity everyday.

Paul followed with a run through of our Run, Hide, Prevent policy, with an interactive session being held to discuss certain scenarios and the most appropriate way to respond.

Finally, it was the famous Odils shared lunch, and what lunch it was. An international feast prepared by staff and volunteers for all the enjoy.

A great start to our first day of Inset and more to follow tomorrow.

🍀 Stories in Nature: Connecting with Nature in Caradon Woods 🍁

Another wonderful day on our Stories in Nature programme.

We were picked up from Odils by DAn Travel and travelled to Caradon Woods in a lovely, comfortable bus.

When we arrived, the rain had just passed, leaving the woods feeling fresh, peaceful and welcoming.

We were warmly welcomed by Phil from Greenwood Music and headed out with Jess and Mark from Fotonow to Meadow Camp.

At the camp, we spent some time taking part in photo activities. We explored the woodland surroundings through photography, looking closely at the details, colours, textures and natural shapes around us. It was a lovely opportunity to be creative, try different ways of capturing the environment and enjoy being present in the peaceful woodland setting.

Phil, Marina and Tatiana then organised an amazing meal for everyone, with fresh vegetables, hummus, flatbread and delicious vegan sausages fried over the fire. Sharing food together outdoors made the experience even more special.

We spent lots of time relaxing in the hammocks, enjoying the peaceful surroundings and taking in the beauty of the woods. Some of us enjoyed a swim in the river. We also got creative, making spatulas and drawing on flat stones being inspired by the environment around us.

It was a fantastic day of nature connection, creativity, wellbeing and community. We enjoyed slowing down, spending time together, getting creative and making the most of the fresh and welcoming woodland surroundings.

🍃Stories in Nature: Connecting with Nature in Caradon Woods 🍃

Another wonderful day on our Stories in Nature programme.

We were picked up from Odils Learning Foundation by Tamar Coaches LTD in a fantastic bus and travelled to Caradon Woods near Callington.

On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Phil from Greenwood Music CIC , who provided us with refreshments before we headed out on a photo walk with Emma from Fotonow (CIC) to River Camp. With the sun shining and temperatures high, it was lovely to reach the river and enjoy the cool, fresh air and peaceful surroundings.

After returning from the river camp, we enjoyed a delicious lunch and had some well-earned time to relax, including a chance to unwind in the hammocks.
Later in the day, we got creative with whittling and charcoal drawing, using natural materials and our surroundings as inspiration. These hands-on activities gave everyone a chance to slow down, be creative and enjoy being outdoors.

It was a fantastic day of nature connection, creativity, wellbeing and community. We enjoyed spending time together, connecting with nature, enjoying the sunshine and making the most of everything the woods had to offer.
