From Poland to Wales: Boleslaw’s Welsh Learning Journey
Boleslaw, an IT Project Manager from Poland, began learning Welsh after meeting Welsh speakers at a Polyglot Gathering in Brno in 2025.
“Although I couldn’t speak a word then, the language immediately piqued my interest,” he says.
With a background in linguistics and a lifelong passion for languages, Boleslaw felt drawn to Welsh culture and identity. After returning home, he enrolled on an online course with Coleg Gwent through Dysgu Cymraeg.
“Coleg Gwent has been an outstanding choice, providing a very high standard of education,” he explains. “The tutors, resources and friendly atmosphere have made every lesson a joy.”
Living abroad can make practising Welsh more challenging, but Boleslaw stays motivated through online events, S4C, YouTube and independent study.
“I believe dedication and regular effort are far more vital than fleeting motivation,” he says.
Earlier this year, Boleslaw travelled from Poland to Wales to sit his Mynediad exam.
“It was exhilarating,” he says. “It was my first time in Wales, and I felt like a child discovering something new around every corner.”
Passing the exam is one of his proudest achievements so far, but learning Welsh has also helped him develop a deep connection with Wales and its culture.
“Mae hiraeth arna i! I have truly fallen in love with Wales,” he says.
His advice to anyone considering learning Welsh?
“Do not hesitate — sign up with Dysgu Cymraeg. You will join a vibrant community and begin a rewarding journey of cultural discovery.”
