🎬 USW Alumni Spotlight: Nucleus Documentary Project
Our alumnus James Thomson is leading an ambitious documentary, Nucleus, exploring the human legacy of nuclear weapons testing. The film follows contributors Diana (Kazakhstan), Alan (UK), and Hinamoeura (French Polynesia) as they navigate the emotional and physical impact of nuclear tests on their communities.
Unlike typical documentaries, Nucleus combines cinematic storytelling, sonic landscapes, and co-created liminal worlds to immerse viewers in the experiences of those affected, while reflecting on humanity’s capacity for resilience, hope, and love in the shadow of nuclear destruction.
The project began as a photography initiative in Newport and has grown into a feature film after years of research and development. James and his team are now seeking support to fund collaborative workshops, production in the UK, French Polynesia, and Kazakhstan, music composition, and editing by award-winning professionals.
