UoP Cosmology

UoP Cosmology Institute of Gravitation and Cosmology. World Class Research into Cosmology, Gravitation and Astrophysics happening here in Portsmouth.

The ICG is now an internationally renowned center of excellence for cosmological research with funding from the main UK and European agencies (STFC, RS, EC, HEFCE). In the 2008 UK government Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), 75% of the ICG research was judged to be "Internationally Excellent" or better (3* or 4* status, with 4* being the highest). This ranking places the ICG in the top 5 Applied Maths groups in the UK.

📢 Event Announcement

We're thrilled to share that on Monday 10 November 2025 (6pm) at the University of Portsmouth we’re hosting an exciting talk titled: “The 2025 Nobel Prize – Quantum Tunnelling and Macroscopic Quantized Circuits”.

Join us as Professor Jordan (Kennedy Chair in Physics, Chapman University) steps through:
- The foundational physics of superconducting circuits and quantum tunnelling
- How those quantum phenomena are driving today’s quantum sensing, measurement and computing technologies.

This event is free and open to anyone with an interest in the frontiers of physics and quantum technology. Whether you’re in academia, industry, or just curious about how fundamental discoveries are transforming computing and instrumentation, this is for you.
