It often feels like the gentle art of rest is at risk of being forgotten amid the hectic race to get even more done. At the same time, we hear warnings that if we don't stop to smell the roses, perhaps literally, life can pass us by as we rush continually to be somewhere else, deferring happiness until we finish a never-ending to-do list.

Inspired by "The art of rest", this blog post teases apart all the ways we can slip a little more relaxation into every day without doing anything less, and argues the necessity of luxury, ease, and handling ourselves gently. Plus the usual shopping list of ways you can feel better every day.

Coming up tomorrow! Join local artists, students, activists, organisers, council and public library staff, and more for a celebration of allyship, civic engagement and ethics, where our Architecture students will be showcasing their design for a Sanctuary Centre in Portsmouth. Expect social and fun activities organised by students together with talks and opportunities to network with all those working to make Portsmouth a more cosmopolitan and inclusive city.

Oh, and we are told to expect 'tons' of food, drinks, tea and coffee. Last time we checked, tea and coffee were drinks, but we guess that just shows how much generosity you can expect! No-one mentioned that any of this was free though, so bring money just in case!

While we strive to offer everything you need under one roof, it is worth remembering that you have access to:
* public libraries - here and at home (if you live elsewhere)
* the public library Access to Research network
* many other university libraries through the SCONUL Access scheme
* national libraries, like the British Library and national libraries of Scotland and Wales, if you live in Scotland or Wales, respectively and can travel there.

Depending on where you live, you might be spoiled for choice in where you can go to dig out the latest research. Other libraries often offer access only to their books and study spaces, but in many cases, that in itself can be liberating.

Read more about how you can access other libraries and what they can do for you on the Library blog at https://library.port.ac.uk/liblog/libraries-galore

Struggling? Even a little? You don’t have to handle it alone. πŸ’œ

At university, support comes in many forms β€” including immediate, in the moment support at the touch of your finger tips:

βœ… Talk it through anytime with the 24/7 Student Helpline
βœ… Use the Wisdom app for support with mood, worries, sleep and relaxation
βœ… Reach out to your Student Services teams for tailored university support, advice and access to specialist services

Whether it’s something big or small, taking that first step matters.
