Our 3rd year student, Noella Spitz, presented her placement experience at the Science and Technology Facilities Council at Harwell campus near Oxford. As a scientific software developer placement student, Noella was involved in creating user friendly GUI for existing programmes and developing optimisation algorithms for fast and efficient calculations. The placement has enhanced Noella’s understanding of cutting-edge technology and the importance of software architecture in research and development.

Our 3rd year student, Toby Howard, presented his placement experience at the biopharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim. Toby learned to calibrate a wide range of equipment including gauges, temperature probes and complex electrical systems, and was certified as a Master Data Manager for maintaining accurate calibration records. Toby found the experience very rewarding and eye-opening.

Our year 3 student, David Chui, presented his research work he completed when participating in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme (UROP) at the University of Reading over the summer. David designed an efficient algorithm to synchronise multiple sensors with a video recording, with important applications in movement classification using multiple wearable sensors.
