"I have thoroughly enjoyed my journey. Thanks to everyone who made that possible."

Our Children's Wellbeing Practitioners Training course, completed in March 2026, delivered high quality training and treated over 300 individuals for low level mental health issues. 27 Trainees from 12 services across Southern England treated young people between the ages of 5-18 years for conditions like anxiety and low mood.

- Our cohort for 2025-6 treated 307 individuals for treatment ranging from 5-18 years

- 27 students completed the training and are now working as qualified practitioners dealing with low level mental health issues in CYP

- Anxiety and low mood remain the predominant reason for referral amongst young people

The training makes a real impact on the lives of young people living in the community and once again shows the success of training in CWI.

"Thank you to all the lecturers and team for all the support. I've found the training very useful and have met some great people. I've enjoyed this course a lot and I'm excited to use this knowledge to support lots of CYP in the future."

Considering some CPD in Children and Young People Inpatient Training?

We’re excited to share the feedback from the Inpatient Whole Team Training which took place at the Charlie Waller Institute between October and December 2025.

Teams came from 8 Inpatient Units across the South East of England with 22 trainees attending.

The 12 days were mostly live online sessions, with the first day face to face in Reading with some Padlet teaching.

Topics covered consisted CYPIAPT principles, Inpatient Culture, working on an Inpatient Unit, reflective practise, supervision and working with young people and their families.

Feedback was gathered in 2 ways,

📈 Daily feedback scores rated the teaching and the information given on each day

❓A pre and post-training questionnaire which assessed knowledge gains during the training.

The daily feedback had really high ratings. 73% of teaching was rated above 9/10!

Knowledge increased in 100% of statements between the pre and post training questionnaire!

Increased knowledge and broader team understanding helps with the CYP patient care and outcomes

“All the interaction between different groups and wards is amazing- learned so much”

“All the days were full of information and lots of time to speak to people from different units, some of which were eating disorder units, which was very helpful”

“Interesting to learn so much about something I don't have much experience with”

📣 We are thrilled to announce the first in our revamped CPD events series - Enhancing therapeutic practice: Engaging young people in adult services, 18th February 2026, 9.30-4.30, online.

We are committed to facilitating the workforce to support 16-24 year-olds. We are aware engagement amongst our younger clients is poorer and additional knowledge and support is required to develop the skills of practitioners to address some of the barriers to engagement. This training aims to provide theory and practical tools to support young people to flourish in adult services.

The aim of the session is to inform and/or expand attendees' knowledge on the developmental stages of child development, highlight key legislation and safeguarding practices to inform ethical working, and develop an increased confidence adapting clinical practice to engage younger people.

Learning objectives
💡 Describe the key theories underpinning child and adolescent development
💡 Explain the intersecting risk factors that contribute to poor engagement among young adults in therapeutic settings
💡 Explore and evaluate key strategies that promote engagement in therapeutic practice with young adults
💡 Identify and apply key areas to explore during assessment sessions with young adults and beyond standard assessment information
💡 Describe key considerations for adapting assessment and treatment approaches for young adults across different presentations
💡 Consider and justify when and how to work with the systems around young people, where clinically appropriate
💡 Understand and practice strategies to manage therapeutic ruptures with young adults

Sign up at the link in our bio, or visit our website for more information and alternative ways to book.

We hope to see you there!
