𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘀𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 - 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗩𝗹𝗼𝗴 #𝟱

Our Headteacher has released his latest vlog, sharing positive updates for families and the wider Robertsbridge Community College community.

This edition shines a spotlight on one of our three core values, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁, and the meaningful difference it makes to everyday life here at RCC. From how pupils engage with their learning, to how they treat the people and environment around them, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 continues to play an important role in our school community.

The vlog reflects on a number of recent moments from across the school, including almost a year since the launch of our Crest Cards and Community Cards. This initiative has been a real success in encouraging pupils to give back to their community and recognise positive contributions across the school.

There is also a look ahead to welcoming our incoming Year 7 pupils through their upcoming taster days, as well as recognising the positive relationships being built through wider school activities.

We would also like to take a moment to recognise our Year 11 pupils, who are currently sitting their GCSE exams. We wish them all the very best and are incredibly proud of the dedication, focus and 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 they are showing during this important time.

Look out for more updates and reflections in future vlogs.

𝗠𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘁'𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗧𝗼 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝟭𝟭𝘀 - 𝗬𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆

From time to time, our Headteacher Mr Pratt shares a reflection with students, staff and families - a thought to pause on, drawn from the values we believe matter most here at Robertsbridge.

𝗢𝗻 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝟭𝟭 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗖𝗦𝗘 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱. For many of them, it will feel like the biggest moment of their school lives so far - and I want to say something to them, and to the families supporting them, before that day arrives.

Marie Curie - a woman who overcame extraordinary obstacles to become the first person ever to win two Nobel Prizes - once said: "Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves."

She was right. And those words feel particularly well-suited to this moment.

𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗹𝘂𝗰𝗸 - 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Our Year 11s have spent five years building the knowledge, habits and resilience they'll carry into that exam hall. The work is done. What matters now is trusting it.

To every Year 11 student: 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘂𝗽. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀. 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁. 𝗪𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴!

Good luck - though you won't need it. You've done the work.

The UKMT Maths Challenges are nationally recognised competitions that encourage students to develop their logical thinking, problem solving and mathematical reasoning beyond the standard curriculum.

A superb achievement from Toby, who took part in the UKMT Pink Kangaroo follow-on round after performing strongly in an earlier UKMT competition.

Toby scored an outstanding 74 marks, earning a Silver Kangaroo Award. This places him among the strongest performers nationally, with a Silver in this round typically ranking within the top 20–30% of participants. This is even more impressive as those taking part are already drawn from the highest achievers in the country.

We are also proud to have had 58 students from Years 7 and 8 take part in the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge, competing against students from schools across the country.
Students completed the challenge under full exam conditions in the hall, a demanding experience in itself, and showed excellent focus and maturity throughout.

Strong performances may lead to qualification for further UKMT follow-on rounds, including the Junior Kangaroo and Junior Mathematical Olympiad.

These fantastic achievements reflect real ability, resilience and ambition. We are extremely proud of Toby and all the students who took part, representing Robertsbridge Community College with pride and respect.

If there was ever an example to capture the essence of Pride, Ambition and Respect in action it’s this football story!

Last week, playing outside of school with his local club, Year 10 student Adam took a stud to the chest during the Rother League winners decider - sustaining a fractured rib in the process. Running off adrenaline, he opted to play through the pain!*

*(Not something we’d recommend but admirably impressive!)

His team went on to win 3-1, taking the league title in what was clearly a match played at full intensity. Adam was confirmed the next morning to have a fractured and bruised rib, but despite this was back in school the very next day.

That kind of determination is exactly what we're proud to see from our students - on and off the pitch.

Well done, Adam - and we hope the rib mends quickly!

𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘀𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝟱𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗶𝘇𝘇𝗮!

On Friday we welcomed almost fifty Year 5 pupils from schools across the local area for our first ever Year 5 Outreach Morning - and what a morning it was!

Rather than waiting until our Open Evening in September, we wanted to give prospective students an early chance to visit the school and get stuck in. The pupils were split into two groups, each spending 45 minutes on two very different activities… in one session exploring our living garden and polytunnel, and helping cook pizza outdoors with our DT teachers, and in another, building - and firing! - bottle rockets with our Science team. Safe to say there were plenty of happy faces by the end!

We were delighted to welcome Year 5s on this occasion from: Burwash, Bodiam, Hurst Green, Staplecross, Sedlescombe, Battle and Langton, Etchingham, Salehurst, Netherfield, Crowhurst, Catsfield, Hawkhurst Primary, Robsack Wood, and St Paul's Academy.

This is just the beginning - we are planning further outreach sessions across terms 5 and 6, covering a range of subjects. Watch this space!

Thank you to everyone who brought their children along - it was a wonderful morning. We hope to see many of you back here in September for our official 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴; 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟳𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 - earlier than usual so please put it in your diary!

𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆
We were delighted to welcome the University of Brighton Pharmacy Department into school to deliver an inspiring assembly to our KS3 students who have expressed an interest in careers in STEM and the NHS.

Students explored the wide range of roles within the pharmacy industry, showing real ambition as they considered the different pathways and routes into these careers. It was a fantastic opportunity to gain insight into a vital and ever-growing sector.
Throughout the session, students demonstrated great respect, engaging thoughtfully with the speakers and asking insightful questions about their future options.

It was also fantastic to see such strong pride in their learning, with students showing genuine enthusiasm and curiosity about the opportunities ahead.

Students who are interested will have the opportunity to sign up for an exciting trip to the University of Brighton, where they will tour the facilities and take part in hands-on activities. Letters with further details will be sent out soon.

𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘀𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲'𝘀 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲-𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀

Robertsbridge Community College has been featured in the Sussex Express this week, following our announcement of an exciting new initiative launching at the end of June.

From that point, all students will lock their mobile phones into secure pouches at the start of the school day - safely stored, but out of reach until home time.

The decision reflects a growing body of evidence that even the presence of a smartphone can affect concentration and limit the quality of face-to-face interaction. By removing that distraction, we're creating a more purposeful environment - one where students can focus fully on their learning, build stronger relationships with those around them, and feel a genuine sense of belonging.

As Headteacher James Pratt explains: "We're creating an environment that promotes ambition and aspiration - helping every young person feel a strong sense of belonging in our community."

This is also a timely move. The Government has made clear that phone-free schools will shortly become a national requirement - and as is often the case at RCC, we're proudly ahead of the curve!

Robertsbridge Community College (RCC), part of Aquinas CE Trust, is introducing a ‘phone-free’ school day to improve focus, academic progress and student wellbeing.

Thursday 18th June marks National Thank a Teacher Day - a chance to recognise the people in our school who make a real difference, often in ways that aren’t always seen.

At Robertsbridge, we are proud of the commitment, care and high expectations our staff bring every day. Whether it’s in the classroom, supporting students behind the scenes, or going the extra mile at just the right moment, those small actions add up to something much bigger.

Mr Pratt, Headteacher, said:
“Our staff work incredibly hard to support our students, not just academically, but as young people growing in confidence and character. I often share daily examples of ambition, pride and respect in action from our students, but I also see these same values in our staff. I know many families will have their own moments where a member of staff has made a genuine difference. National Thank a Teacher Day is a great opportunity to recognise that.”

If there is a teacher or member of support staff who has made a difference to your child this year, we would love to hear about it. Please feel free to share a message of thanks in the comments below; you can also send a personalised e-card - for free - via the official Thank a Teacher website here:

We have been made aware that the A21 from John's Cross is currently closed. Having liaised closely with local police we have been informed that they have now left the scene.

The Highways Agency are now responsible for undertaking the appropriate repair works, they have assured us that they will endeavour to get this done overnight to ensure the road is reopened in time for tomorrow morning however, if this is not the case diversions will be in place that will enable bus services to continue to access the school site.

Our Headteacher has released his latest vlog, sharing positive updates for families and the wider Robertsbridge Community College community.

In this edition, he focuses on one of our three core values 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲 and how this continues to shape school life, student achievement and the wider culture of our school.

The vlog reflects on a range of recent experiences and opportunities across the school, including students taking part in a productive residential trip, contributing positively to the school environment, and showcasing their talents through wider school activities.

It also looks ahead to the important period coming up for our Year 11 students, as they continue their preparations with focus and determination.

More updates and reflections will follow in future vlogs.
