Thank you to everyone who came along to our March session 😄! Really good racing right across the board, though there was some rough action in the first session 😅 Already seeing some progress in abilities, this time with about 14 karts on track and racing in traffic.

We also invited Joe and Courtney from Shock Radio as part of their "Up For It" programme 😁! They were getting to grips with the track in good time (being shoved around when necessary 😜) and having a brilliant time. They will be broadcasting on Monday, both on Shock Radio and Shock Xtra as part of the 24 hour broadcast, so do listen in to that!

Look out for the next session, coming up likely for the end of April 👀

All the best racing lines,
Jamie

✍️ AGM & Elections ✍️

Location TBD, Date and time TBC between 21st-31st and 19:00 to 20:30.

Every year we are required to host an Annual General Meeting (AGM) where we discuss the future of the society, review what went well and what didn't. It also is an opportunity for you as members to voice concerns and decide on the direction of the society.

Along with the AGM we will have our committee elections. There are 4 posts which are mandatory to fill. These are:
- 👉 Chair: responsible for the direction and decision making of the society, and overall organiser of events.
- 💸 Treasurer: responsible for cash flow and drafting, reviewing, and confirming budgets for events, memberships, and the year overall.
- 🤲 Wellbeing: responsible for the welfare and health of society members, including maintaining social links, as well as listening and responding to concerns and complaints.
- 📆 Secretary: responsible for communication within and outwith the society, including social media, Doodle polls etc.

If you are interested in running for a committee position, please send a draft manifesto and a short summary to [email protected]

Once Doodle Poll is working again, I'll send a link to indicate when to have the AGM.

Yours,
Jamie

Hello fellow rubber enthusiasts,

Just a quick message to talk about the idea of TS memberships.

As some of you know, TeamSport have membership options for individuals starting from £7.99 to get discounts for sessions and some member only events which would add to our social calendar.

Follow the link below and comment or DM with your thoughts on what level of membership would suit your level and commitment. The membership fee would cover this expense for the year.

Posts will follow in the week regarding elections for committee roles, Rec Night plans for the 16th, and dates for the next karting session 😁

Have a great week!

What a brilliant first Taster session at TeamSport Victoria - 25 people signed up and we got great racing on track. Some leading stars already coming to the top of the time sheets but we had some people taking to karting for the very first time 😮 and really enjoying themselves which is great to see 😁

Thank you all for coming along and for the discussion about the society afterwards - I'm considering all of it and will put some ideas to you all soon. In the meantime, I'll apply for more funding for the next session plus news on committee elections at the end of March ✍️

The venue is TeamSport Victoria, right beside Manchester Arena and Victoria train station. You'll be handling the latest electric powered karts at speed around a tight circuit which has ramps to an upper level, driving over your fellow competitors.

We have 10 free spaces available for our taster session on Tuesday 15th February. Please use the link above to sign up and confirm your place in the booking. If we run out of free spaces, we may ask you to pay for your space, if able to, to allow others to join in.

🎉Big news! We've gotten funding for the taster session!🥳

We have £280 to spend on 10 people attending our taster session for free. This is for the student discount at TeamSport Victoria, so you'll need to bring your valid student ID with you. This does not include transport to and/or from the track. You will need to bring a balacava and gloves but these are purchasable in your booking for £3.00 and you can keep both for next time.

The taster session just needs a date and booking in - if anyone has any particular days which they cannot attend please do comment below by the end of the week so I can make sure the most people will be able to make the session.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Hello all,

Some good and bad news to share:
Good news - I've put in a funding application to the SU for a Taster Session in the coming month or so. Regardless of if we get funding or not we will be going ahead with one, so watch this space for future announcements! Inspire memberships are being investigated at the moment and I'll announce as soon as these are ready.

Bad news - One of our stretch goals for this year would have been to compete in a round of the BUKC rookie championship. However, I have just received this email from the organizers:

"Due to the high demand for teams at the [Intermediate Championship] qualifiers, we have found ourselves oversubscribed with ... team entries, meaning we have had to make the decision to, unfortunately, not open the Rookie Championship this year"

Therefore, we will not be competing in BUKC this year as hoped. That said, the calendar for local competitions at Three Sisters has been announced plus more to come from Hooton Park and other Northern circuits, which is one of our main objectives of the society.

More details to follow, and thank you for following us!
Yours in tarmac,
Jamie

Happy New Year to friends old and new!

We are now officially affiliated with the SU and can accept new members for 2021-2022 🥳🎉!! It going to be a rebuilding year for our society, but we will make sure we will have at least 2 indoor karting sessions for the society and an optional outdoor session. The BUKC is our goal for the next year so let's get the practice in and put a great team together 💪 There will be sadly be no "re-freshers/welcome" fair this term, but it would be good to meet you all for a social as the new term starts 😄

On the run up to the new term we'll be adding an Instagram page where we will be posting society updates, important dates, and our progress through out the year 🏎🤳

Our new membership fee is £35 for the year which will cover:
- Your guaranteed place in one of our indoor karting sessions at TeamSport Manchester. Please bring appropriate gloves & balaclava beforehand, or you can purchase a set of your own at the time for £3.50.
- A place in our outdoor karting session at Three Sisters circuit in Wigan. If demand is high we may ask for a small top up fee to make sure everyone who wants to partake can attend.

You can have a look at our society page on the Salford Students website here and order your membership: https://www.salfordstudents.com/groups/karting--5

Thank you for sticking with us, and looking forward to seeing you all in the new term 😁! If you have any membership or budget questions, please message the page and we'll answer as soon as possible.

All the very best for 2022,
Jamie Scanlan
