Southampton University Symphony Orchestra is one of the leading student orchestras in the UK

SUSO, an entirely student-run and student-funded symphony orchestra, comprises the most talented musicians at the University of Southampton – across all degree programmes – and performs a wide-ranging repertoire of large-scale orchestral works to a high standard. SUSO rehearse every Wednesday during term-time from 7.00pm-10.00pm and holds four concerts each year

Join us for our first concert of 2026-27, pre-term!! 🎶

The concert opens with Berlioz's bright and sometimes wild Roman Carnival Overture, followed by Bizet's Carmen Suite No.1., featuring a collection of music from the famous opera Carmen!

To close the first half we have what has become one of the most popular pieces of classical music from the last 40 years, Márquez's Danzon No.2, featuring Latin American rhythms and a dance-like atmosphere.

To finish is Dvořák's spectacular Symphony No.9 "From the New World". One of the most popular symphonies ever written it has become a staple of orchestral repertoire.

Today is the final day to sign-up for our 2026 pre-term course. It's going to be a great week of music, socials, and a fun concert at the end! It is also a great way to meet new people and see everyone again before the start of term.

Whether you’re celebrating your results, getting ready to start university, or just figuring out what comes next, we’d love to welcome you to Southampton! 💙

🎶 PRE-TERM 2026 IS HERE! 🎶

Pre-term is a week-long event run by Southampton University Symphony Orchestra for new and current students. With daily rehearsals, socials and a concert to finish the week, it’s the perfect chance to meet new people, make new friends and play some exciting repertoire — all before Freshers’ Week and the start of term!

It’s a great way to settle into life in Southampton and get a taste of the University’s musical culture and society experience. 🎻

This year’s repertoire includes:
