Yesterday’s first running of the Stately Planter class could not have went better, completing 7 planters between 5 people within 5 hours…including tea and lunch breaks!
Due to the glorious summer weather, rain, we changed plan and started this class with assembling the pre cut parts, creating one side of the planter box. Exterior grade 64mm pocket hole screws were utilised here to create a seamless joint externally.
Once the rain eased and sun came out again, the compound mitre saw was pushed back out the shed door. Each person was given a practical example of how to operate the saw, best practices and closely monitored to ensure safety and correct use. All cuts were performed with ease, accurately and in record time, certainly in comparison to the manual saws we normally use. I think there may be a couple mitres saws being added to Christmas lists quietly..😬
Newly cut components that required pocket holes were drilled, ready for assembly. The pocket hole jig is a cool little gizmo, where it produces nice, clean and consistent pocket holes on repeat, click and drill.
Assembly of the planter box was then completed using pocket screws. The bottom was measured, cut to spec and fitted. Top plates were measured, marked and pre drilled with counter sunk holes under the finial position. Double ended screws were utilised in connecting the finials to the top plates, completing the Stately Planter.
These came out so good, I’m really proud of everyone that attended the class, you all did a really fantastic job! I love how they look stacked up, what a good way to set them up! Tetris was played and amazingly all 7 planters left in just two cars.
This was a group booking by a couple of good friends, husbands and wives. It was really nice to see husband and wife working together to complete their projects, you hold this, I’ll do that.
Cowshed Workshop as always, a fantastic venue!
Well done to all! A really great day!!👍
