The North East Sports Academy (NESA), is designed to offer you the perfect environment in which to develop your sporting and academic skills. You can become a NESA student in one of the following Development Centre sports:

Badminton
Men's Basketball
Women's Basketball
Men's Football
Women's Football
Rugby Union
Rugby League
Mixed Martial Arts
As a NESA student you can study any of Tyne Metropolit

an College's or Queen Alexandra Sixth Form's fantastic courses, and receive up to 10 hours of high level coaching in your chosen sport, all within your college timetable. In addition to this great coaching you will also receive a sport specific strength and conditioning programme from our strength and conditioning coach, free gym membership, free physiotherapy and a subsidised NESA sports clothing pack. Our partnerships with Team Northumbria, Newcastle United Women's F.C, The Newcastle Eagles, The Newcastle United Foundation, North Tyneside Council, local amateur clubs and Sporting Governing Bodies offers NESA students a real opportunity for progression, both in their academic studies and in their Sport. NESA Steering Groups made up of representatives from our partner organisations will meet regularly to discuss the progression of the individual Development Centres, and ensure that your best interests are looked after.

Football Excellence year 2 learner Jamie Norvell made his senior debut for North Shields FC in the FA Cup last weekend with two other learners Ahmed Habib and Josh Walker making the substitutes bench. ⚽️⚽️👏👏

Our Football Excellence learners have been enjoying a flavour of senior Football in Pre-Season. Ahmed Habib Played 90 mins last night for North Shields with five other 1st years finishing the game.

A beautiful day down at Tynemouth today with our Tyne Metropolitan College sports students ☀️

The event was planned by our AoC Sport Development Fund leaders & supported by The Key Fund youth led funding 👏🏻

Students took part in beach volleyball, football, tag rugby & had lunch from local favourites Crusoes

We are so lucky to live in the north east, next to some beautiful scenery and the beach is a great place to promote positive mental health... so that’s why our students chose Tynemouth Longsands for the event

They also raised money for Mind to help raise awareness for mental health charities in what has been a challenging year for everyone 💙

HOLIDAY SPORT CAMP IS 🔙 | Our Holiday Sport Camp is returning this half term for children aged between 5-12 years of age. The camp will be running at our Tyne Metropolitan College campus site on the Coast Road ⚽️ 🎾 🥍

We have had to make some changes from previous camps to ensure it will be delivered in the safest way possible, but also ensuring it maintains the fun aspect from previous camps. Places will be limited due to the measures that we have put in place with a slightly shorter day to enable us to clean before and after the activity!

£10 per day (50% sibling discount for a second child) ✅

They wanted to talk about the impact that COVID has had on their lives and how nature has been a lifeline for them during the pandemic 💚

Mental Health Awareness Week 2021 💚

Yesterday 7 Tyne Metropolitan College students, including our AoC Sport Mental Health Ambassadors visited the Northumberland Wildlife Trust within Kielder National Park 🌲

As a group, they took part in a really important ‘rewilding’ project and planted 68 trees 👏🏻 this will help to increase the diversity within the forest, restore habitats for insects, birds and animals & help to protect areas that are crucial for carbon storage 🙌🏻

Nature has been a lifeline for us all during the COVID pandemic and helped us to escape negative thoughts and feel more optimistic. So many things have been taken away from young people... but nobody can take away nature from them.

We also filmed a mental health awareness video to support students at TyneMet to seek help with their mental health & also use nature and getting active to maintain their mental health 💚

A huge thank you to Natasha from Northumberland Wildlife Trust for providing such a fun, inspirational, informative day for all our students
