Level 3 Beauty student Gita Prohorova was working in retail when she decided to return to education. She studied cosmetology in her home country, Latvia, in 2009, but moved away from the career as life got in the way.

โ€œNow my son is in high school, Iโ€™m more flexible and can return to study. We get advice on the business side of the industry, and we work with real clients.โ€

Gita aspires to work in machine-based treatments such as microdermabrasion and galvanic facials. โœจ

Our A Level English and Media students had a fantastic visit this week to The University of Salford, where they enjoyed two fascinating lectures from Dr. Poliah and Prof. Munslow Ong on Nigerian poetry followed by an opportunity to present and record their thoughts in their very own podcast!

A Level English Literature student, Abigail Radcliffe, said the day "was both interesting and relevant to our courses. Alongside this, it was also helpful in giving us an insight into what life is like at university."

A group of full-time Level 2 Plumbing students have been using the mini bungalow in our Brickwork workroom as part of a planning and measuring project.

The students found working on a real-life project to be a great experience, helping them develop practical skills and gain valuable hands-on knowledge in a realistic working environment.

Recently, some of our apprentice electricians and Level 2 Electrical Installation students experienced hands-on demonstrations of the latest testing and commissioning equipment, courtesy of commercial and industrial equipment supplier Megger.

This was an opportunity to gain real insight into modern industry practices. From testing and inspection to advanced fault-finding using cutting-edge instrumentation, the session brought learning to life and highlighted how technology is transforming the sector.

One lucky learner even walked away with a brand new Megger touch pen!

With a growing focus on solar PV, battery storage, energy efficiency, and energy monitoring, our learners are developing the skills needed to succeed in a greener, more sustainable electrical industry.

As The North-West Construction Technical Excellence College, students are getting training that includes better facilities, stronger employer links, and lessons designed around where constructionโ€™s heading.

We caught up with Ellie, Aisha and Hannah who have all completed the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust Cadet Programme.

They reflected on how the eye-opening experience has benefitted them ahead of careers within paramedics.

Level 3 Health & Social Care student, Ellie said: โ€œIt was good to see what it is actually like โ€“ itโ€™s not all like what you see on TV. I got more insight into safeguarding issues and the mental health involved.โ€

Our students experienced a wide range of incidents from critical care to non-life threatening scenarios including cardiac arrests and stab victims to abusive members of the public.

These experiences did not deter the students who all said itโ€™s helped to confirm that they want to pursue a career in paramedics.

T Level Nursing student, Hannah said: โ€œIt has been a good learning experience getting to see things behind the scenes you wouldnโ€™t think of such as seeing how they dispatch ambulances and the different categories that are decided on.โ€

Aisha added: โ€œIt was a very hands-on experience. You get to see how everyoneโ€™s lives are so different. You also witness how someoneโ€™s lives can change suddenly such as a stabbing. I was also on the call to a mother who gave birth at home.

โ€œItโ€™s made me want to do this as a career even more, and I now have a good expectation of what is involved.โ€
